Fake Ginger Root
Lacking ginger root one may resort to ginger powder, though in a miso soup the powder is quite different, and maybe needs a little more of something else with the ginger powder.

Or FOFAFOSS. Rolls right off your tongue.
Like in many families, there's always a bit of.. turmoil and drama in FOSS. Something breaks (either on purpose or by accident), people get frustrated.. The usual. It is kind of to be expected when it comes to very social projects, like let's say, Linux desktop environments.
People have their own visions and ways to see things. They often clash. That's normal. It's quite human. I do like to think that Linux desktop environments especially are like siblings that have rivalries.

Morning Routine
For reasons unknown I was pondering my morning routine during...my morning routine. This routine is not something I put any real concerted thought into and it's not set in stone. Just something I have arrived at organically I suppose but I do quite enjoy it.
During the school year the day starts off with waking the kid(s), making breakfast, getting ready for the day and taking them to school on the bike. When I return home I make myself and my wife breakfast and coffee and see her off to work. After that I usually sit on the patio(sometimes the dining table inside) and drink another coffee, listen to the birds, read the latest gemini posts and play palmdle on my palm pilot

Commercial Games on OpenBSD (May 2024)
I think this is a pretty good time to give an update on the current state. One of the goals is to provide starting points for people who want to understand the limitations and see how to get involved.

Reminder That Antenna Needs Your Gemlog
Hey, everyone! I hope we have a bunch of new people in geminispace since the last time I wrote a post like this; it’s been a very long time since then after all.

Re: Reminder That Antenna Needs Your Gemlog (publ. 2024-05-02)
I would like to remind ew0k and the world that all my feeds were banned from Antenna four months ago, after ew0k put a rules block on my gemini domain (gem.librehacker.com). This was in response to my writing a conservative post criticizing Hamas and the Palestians. A few people stood up for me, but even after much attention on Antenna and BBS, the ban was never reversed.

Gemini Get
gmid ships with a "gg" script to get gemini resources, in the event that Lagrange was reported to have crashed when trying to download some MP3 or the other. Downside: gg does not support TOFU verification. There are various other scripts that can do the same, maybe git clone

RiscOS
Back into 'Riscy' business ;-) The news of the recent release of RiscOS 5.30 brought back a sudden urge to again try out this dinosaur of an operating system as an daily driver again.
The setup process was easy as usual (you can find more details in an article in the "computer stuff" section of this phlog - it hasn't changed anything). Well, after about 15 minutes from downloading to flashing to wiring my trusty Raspberry Pi i had now again a working RiscOS system. After firing it up it took my only another 5 minutes until my muscle memory kicked in and i was using the system again like i had never stopped.

The speed of Microsoft's BASIC floating point routines
I was curious about how fast Microsoft's BASIC (Beginners' All-purpose Symbolic Instruction Code) floating point [1] routines were. This is easy enough to test, now that I can time assembly code inside the assembler [2]. The code calculates -2Ï€^3/3! using Color BASIC routines, IEEE (Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers)-754 single precision and double precision.
