I forgot the ads even exist (got AdBlack and NoScript installed). Shane added them back in 2006 and I don't think they pay more than a dollar a day (just about enough for the hosting bill). Google tries to match up the ads with keywords found in the site according to some arbitrary algorithm. The site administrators basically have no control over which ads might appear. I wonder if it's possible that a Microsoft or Novell ad might appear. At least, one can say that the site administrators do not necessarily endorse whatever the ads are promoting.
