Bullying, Intimidation and Smears, Courtesy of Microsoft

Posted in America, Fraud, Microsoft, Open XML, SUN at 8:46 pm by Dr. Roy Schestowitz

Over the past year, on several occasions in fact, we have covered several shocking incidents where Microsoft not only attacked individuals in a targeted fashion (it uses anonymous voices and/or business partner to better hide the trails). We have also shown that people lost their jobs and level of authority as a result of Microsoft smear campaigns.

“It wanted to see its insiders turn into decision-makers.”You might find yourself wondering if Microsoft only targets the weak and the feeble — that which cannot defend itself or respond with libel claims (which themselves become a considerable distraction). That is not the case however.

We have already seen coordinated attacks against State CIO whose decision rocked the Microsoft procurement boat. We have already seen international bodies, much like Yahoo Board of Directors at the moment, coming under attack from a corporation that wanted to see heads rolling. It wanted to see its insiders turn into decision-makers.

Today’s story comes from another person whom you may be familiar with: Tim Bray. Tim is a well-known trailblazer, much like Vint Cerf, whom Microsoft (ECMA) wishes to characterise as a 'troll' to be ignored ahead of the BRM in Geneva (Vint Cerf is from CERN, so join the dots). Here is Tim’s story that was pulled by Groklaw:

Those with long memories might suggest a parallel between Rick’s position and mine when in 1997, I was sitting on the XML Working Group and co-editing the spec, on a pro bono basis as an indie consultant. Netscape hired me to represent their interests, and when I announced this, controversy ensued. Which is a nice way of saying that Microsoft went berserk; tried unsuccessfully to get me fired as co-editor, and then launched a vicious, deeply personal extended attack in which they tried to destroy my career and took lethal action against a small struggling company because my wife worked there. It was a sideshow of a sideshow of the great campaign to bury Netscape and I’m sure the executives have forgotten; but I haven’t.

For information about Microsoft corruptions from ‘Netscape era’, see the Billwatch section of this Web site.

This seems like a rather typical mode of operation for Microsoft. By all means remember that Microsoft describes its marketing and promotion efforts as "Jihad" (holy war). This comes from internal memos and that appears to just be the way the company operates. To give similar examples in light of the recent developments around OOXML, consider:

On a less timely or relevant note, consider the smears against Richard Stallman. This isn’t science fiction. Microsoft has proven over and over again that its viciousness becomes a threat to one’s career. It’s a subtle — albeit sometimes severe — mode of intimidation and punishment.

  6. Manners Are a Good Thing. The Yardstick or the Standard of Manners Changes Over Time.

Entirely legitimate grievances of African-Americans are being exploited by people who aren’t even African-American (and usually don’t speak for African-Americans) to warp the debate from one about software ethics and technical issues, not to mention war crimes of companies that employ many programmers, to something which is unlikely to really help African-Americans (also, they don't employ any African-Americans)

  10. (Software) Freedom is Elusive Without the Ability to Concentrate

Software is consuming people's minds; to make matters worse, people have become so attached to such software that they're unable to see it and get away from it (they associate that software with "social life")

  14. When They're Done With Patents on Foods and Recipes They'll Have Patents on Fashion, Taste and Smell

The mental dysfunction — an infectious condition — that says everything in the world must be patented should be resisted; it overlooks the fact that patents were introduced to protect/promote actual invention, not thoughts, feelings, nature and art

  15. [Humour/Meme] IBM's Money is Unhealthy to the Free Software Foundation (FSF)

IBM will never be happy as long as RMS (Richard Stallman) has a say in the FSF — directly or indirectly — or even in the GNU Project, both of which he himself created back when IBM was the biggest monopolist

  18. [Humour/Meme] Wear the Red Hat as the Open Org Becomes Openwash

IBM is changing Red Hat and not for the better; sooner or later IBM will become another Microsoft and changing from one to the other will be like swapping 'masters'

  19. IBM is Imposing Non-Free, Privacy-Infringing Tools and Patent Tolls on Red Hat Staff

There are signs that Red Hat under IBM will be more like assimilation to IBM, not IBM assimilating to the 'Red Hat way' or the so-called 'open org'

  20. They Tell the Free Software Community That It is Racist While Saying Nothing at All About Trump's Racism (Because He Gives Them Government and Military Contracts)

While their president compares 'foreign' people to a virus (using innuendo, dog whistles and racist rhetoric reminiscent of the Nazi era) the big US corporations (American surveillance giants) turn their attention to rather innocuous words inside people's code (which almost nobody sees anyway)

  30. Linux Foundation Still Owned and Controlled Largely -- and More Over Time -- by Surveillance Companies (Openwashing Services for Bad Practices and Bad Actors)

The Linux Foundation‘s growing role in spying or the focus on data-mining operations is an eternal reminder or warning that the Foundation follows power and money, not freedom or ethics (it began as a salary-paying venture, crowdfunding among large corporations which conduct mass surveillance)
