CoolGuy, I think ISO's reputation will be broken beyond repair if they accept OOXML, but otherwise they could always reform, fixing all the flaws that got them into this nasty situation, and still preserve their honor (at least from my viewpoint).

BTW Finland voted yes, because "it would make ISO develop OOXML and not MS" Looks like Durasau's remarks are working, lame.

Gnome's actions were wrong for aiding OOXML adverts during the critical ISO approval process. Try to keep the discussion serious instead of avoiding statements by ridiculing them. (BTW Are you really Jess? I remember Jeff used to post including an URI)

You encouraged (or at least defended) intervention in that 'Microsoft Club-for-Hire' called ECMA International, whose former head is now a Microsoft lobbyist working for CompTIA and pushing for OOXML around the world, as well as in the press.

My actions were "wrong"? "Defeatism"? Hilarious. More interplanetary tangentialism from Roy. Just make sure you don't say anything to limit your next conspiracy theory escapade -- and definitely don't veer off into dangerous areas such as the truth, rational thought or reasonableness!

Jeff, the accusation was never that you want OOXML approved (unlike Miguel) but that your actions were wrong... as well as the sense of defeatism. If OOXML is slammed at ISO, who would have the last laugh? Bruce and his prediction (regarding OOXML) applies here as well.

At the end of the day, for the benefit of us all, let's not fight over this. It's truly a distraction. We need to fight OOXML, not fight each other. Sadly, fighting OOXML turned out to be more of a case of fighting crime and corruption, not fighting over technical merits, which would have been an easier battle to pick.

Ah, no reference at all to the person most quoted in this article? Of course not, that would not serve Roy's current and previous conspiracy theories, misleading accusations and insinuations. Not surprising in the least.

ISO's reputation will be in tatters regardless, having seen how the system was abused thus far.

Microsoft thinks that it can buy it way out of everything

Passing such a broken specification as a ISO standard will be a laugh in the face of ISO. Their reputation will be over.

Hope this does not happen.
