One point that should be made is that opening the code doesn´t mean &quot;stop charging for it&quot;. Commercial entities LIKE to pay to get support and have  &quot;someone to shout to&quot; in case things go wrong.

In short: Corel opening its office suite won´t stop legal firms from buying Corel Wordperfect in a boxed version, with paid tech support and fixes.

In fact, RedHat is a good example of a business built on top of open source code. And corporations continue shelling out big $$$ for Red Hat Server, despite the fact that there´s &quot;free&quot; community-supported versions in the form of CentOS.
