<blockquote>
CEO bickering and Michael Meeks’ frustrations with the way Sun operates OO.org doesn’t directly translate into Novell dumping Java.
</blockquote>

I agree, it doesn't. But it does not bode well, either.

I don't know who Mr. Steadfast is, but he is entitled to his own opinion. It's entirely possible Mono does have some advantages over Java for him, and could fall flat on its face in other categories. That's up to the developer.

Mr Steadfast, a Novell employee, sure bothered to write some blog posts about Mono's advantages (compared to Java), but I accept your point that Novell has done a lot with Java. Let's see how it works out in the future considering the fact that Novell's CEO is openly attacking Sun projects like Solaris whilst Meeks et al promote Go-OOXML by attacking OpenOffice.org and Sun.

<i>New projects.</i>

What do you consider a new project? The last considerable piece of software(ZCM) they have built from the ground up uses Java, at least at the interface level. Their teaming product, from the sitescape acquisition, is heavily built with java. They're working on a new version now and I have yet to hear anything about coding the whole thing in mono.

Anything they have to do with Mono is easily dwarfed by their use of java over the past decade. Your sentiment that Novell is somehow against Java seems to go against the facts. Sorry.

Roy continuously repeating false accusations (well, let's call them what they are: lies) aren't made up for by a just cause. Rather his lies soil all belief in that cause that one might have had.

Jo; you made accusations, but they could not be judged because of the flippant manner of your writing.

Roy; From what I understood among Jo's colourful wording, he seems to think you live in a delusion. Whilst it is true you may be biased, you are nonetheless entitled to your own opinions. I beleive Jo's problem was he beleived what you said to be incorrect.

Jo was out of order, you were not.

Note; this is not an agreement or disagreement over the conflict.

Hehe. I also noticed that old page hasn't changed either.

Personally, I think Sun are right to offer customers indemnification.

"<em>Web page: wow, it sucks. While there are actually quite a few people who do want to know Sun will catch the bullet for them in the unlikely event anyone tries to fire one, I think that feature listing is disproportionate to the demand. And it doesn’t mention the support that’s available for OpenOffice.org. I’ll go get the page changed.</em>"

There is a reason why migration tool is available in StartOffice only, though. It is (I guess) licensed third-party software, not Sun's own. More on this here: http://www.oooforum.org/forum/viewtopic.phtml?t=25442
quote:
"the tools is actually provided by a third party. In other words, Sun paid another company for the tool. The tool includes an environment that encapsulates some things required for the translated macros. This is why the tools is NOT free, and why they are not compantible with OOo. Yes indeed, Sun does provide some added value with StarOffice that is not available in OOo."
