I personally now use both Firefox and Chrome, Chrome most of the time.
And on Chrome and privacy, this blog article is my favorite since it actually uses software to monitor what Chrome sends to Google, rather than making up claims:

And Apple and FOSS, that is another mess altogether, and one of my favorite example is the DRM-related PT_DENY_ATTACH in Mac OS X being easily patched out thanks to the availablity of xnu source code.

"They reduce choice in access points to data, not data itself, IMHO."
Yep, I know about the broken Google Groups search that Wired pointed out:
http://www.wired.com/epicenter/2009/10/usenet/
http://www.wired.com/epicenter/2009/10/usenet_fix/
"In platforms they are agnostic for now (they currently enter this space though, which will lead to conflicting interests)."
Yep, I know, look at Mozilla's reaction when it launched Google Chrome

Well, this site is critical of Apple too. But Microsoft is the one not to lose sight of. It actually attacks FOSS the most. You could measure these things.

I mean, an Apple monopoly will be even worse than an MS monopoly because it will lead to a monopoly in hardware. And that leads to another mess altogether, I wrote this about it during the Apple/Psystar lawsuit:

Yep, indeed data is key to Google. And though Google is not perfect, it is definitely better than MS.

"I have the same concerns about Apple (even worse)"
Well, indeed at least MS did not try to tie it's monopoly to it's own hardware.

hehe. enemy of my enemy is my friend. wont work in the long time.

> True, but at the same time it removes a barrier to Free software.

Google is only exploiting free software for their own good. They not only own code, but data and even tons of patents. They are very afraid of M$ thats why they are pretty honest till now, but as they gain more power...you know ...power corrupts in the end. Once M$ crumbles Google will change for sure. It has been always like this from the beginning of time.

Although M$ is of the extreme kind, but still they are all the same kind.

Google game is very simple : they want to own all your data. The more data they have, the more $$ it makes. They are dangling the free carrot to get your data. They make money by selling your data.

Have fun.
