In the log, Roy says: “Not that I need wine, but it probably has equal/better Windows compatibility than VIsta7 given that nightmare Microsoft created by removing APIs, adding UAC, etc.”
I think comments like this are important. If Roy really did use WINE, he’d find out that things don’t work as well as he thinks they do (or wishes they did). He would find out that installing a program sometimes means searching for DLL files, fonts, and other files on the net. Or manually editing config files to get the program to load. Or he may find that the program runs, but then just disappears because Wine crashes with no error message unless you start the program from a terminal.
On my recent trip to China the hard drive in my laptop suffered a mechanical failure. My only short term option was to throw Linux on an external USB hard drive. Wine did not hold up very well. At first QQ wouldn’t install. When it finally did it just crashes after logging in. Weather Pulse, my favorite desktop weather program, won’t run. XMPlayer works but has severe graphical bugs. And to top it off I couldn’t use MagicISO because Wine won’t give the program direct access to USB ports.
Does Wine work with some programs? Sure it does. It stands a great chance if it’s a popular program or game like World of Warcraft, but the compatibility isn’t anywhere close to Windows XP and onward.
The point is, Roy doesn’t use Windows, so he knows little about it. Because he hates Microsoft, he can only take the word of others. Except, he only listens to those with something bad to say. Everyone else must be a liar, shill, or just plain crazy. This is the irrationality people need to be aware of.

I actually did test wine some years ago when someone recommended to me a Windows program.
Nice straw man though.
