<blockquote>
Hi Roy, I attached the image I wanted to upload. It is a custom "wiki pillars" image for the German-language wiki (Berlin Reichstag entryway). Dennis
</blockquote>

I've just realised why it stopped working. I had set up uploads before we got DDOSed and had to escape to a different server. The permissions on the $upload directory were preserved but not the user. It's now set back to "apache".

I've modified the image and uploads should work now (for all registered users).

http://boycottnovell.com/wiki/index.php/German

Thank you <em>so</em> much for this!

The manual recommends to set the executable attribute on the directory. For a directory, that just means that it can be listed IIRC, it will not make files dropped into it executable. The default blacklist also blocks most executable MIME types.

Of course you can also put other additional safeguards in place to make the directory unmessable with.

I'll mail you the image I wanted to upload.

What makes the 1982 Gary-Kildall-pulling-up-the-DR-copyright-in-court anecdote credible? Sources please!

Yes, there is a conflict between two plugins that makes "references" tricky to add (but possible somehow). How do I modify permissions to allow uploads? I suppose I could look it up. OK, here it is:

http://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Manual:Configuring_file_uploads

What worries me are the security implications. Can you send me the images you want to upload? How many are there?

Windows95 runs like a dog on PPro, exposing Microsoft’s “32-bit” claims to be lies.
And did you know that it affected Transmeta too, delaying it's first processor by a year:
http://www.theregister.co.uk/2000/01/20/transmetas_real_mystery_its_os/
http://fringe.davesource.com/Fringe/Computers/CPUs/05.2000.IEEE_Transmeta/
"Digital Research sued Microsoft and IBM over copyright infringement..."
Not exactly.
"Digital Research exercised its right to clone MS-DOS (see 1982) and released DR-DOS."
Well, DR was working on MS-DOS compatiblity for years before they released DR-DOS. You see, after they lost the IBM PC contract, DR decided to focus on the multi-user market, producing Concurrent CP/M and Concurrent DOS. CCP/M-86 3.1 was first to try to support MS-DOS applications.

A very insightful recap and it contains a lot of new information that could go into the wiki.

Apropos: The timeout/blank page problems I had seem to be specific to articles that use a reference tag (the tag generating a list of references). Another bug I found is that I can't upload images because the server doesn't have write permissions.

Can any of the allegedly destroyed court records from the Caldera case be resurrected? It looks like Sun might have had some around in digital form:
