… the price/reward to conduct their distasteful and dishonest business?
In the article above, the Yankee Group [ 1, 2 ] and Gartner Group throw FUD at Android and even desktop GNU/Linux (which is totally unrelated to the subject of the article). These are friends of Steve Ballmer, remember ? They did the same to iPhone, later to be proven wrong.
We choose to quote nothing from the ‘article’, but the headline alone, “New Android Apps a Mixed Bag, Should Improve,” would do harm …

… Woodstock.”
– Howard Anderson Framingham Founder of The Yankee Group (2007)
S everal months ago there was a Yankee-VMWare confrontation (later mentioned in [ 1, 2 ]). For the uninitiated, the Yankee Group is one of the more notorious groups of people hired by Microsoft to publish ‘studies’ — however flawed they may be — against GNU/Linux and Free software. They are now on a warpath against VMWare. One of their recent ‘studies’ …

T o those who are familiar with the Yankee Group, none of this should be surprising. We even covered this before and will continue to do so in the future.
For many years this so-called ‘research’ group has been carrying out anti-Linux studies (read: manufactured publications for clients) that had been commission by Microsoft. Even recently, The Yankee Group’s founder called open source “a religion” and mocked it for …

Free software was never fundamentally about making money or sustaining a business model; it’s about dignity, integrity, users’ freedom etc.
Summary : Groups must learn to reject the seduction or the allure of corporate cash; they should decline offers from rich ‘donors’ or ‘sponsors’ or ‘patrons’ (amongst other convenient and whitewashing euphemisms)

Just like IBM (with its Trojan gifts to Europe ), its foremost member (and where it originally came from)
Summary : The impact of American multinationals on Europe’s policy is difficult to deny ; in fact, we’re observing the same old lobbying/lobbies still working hard albeit more covertly (typically using front groups)
A T the start of the year we said that “IBM, …

The EFF does more for Linux than groups that drape themselves in Tux logos and even put “Linux” in their name
Summary : The absurdity of having groups that claim to defend Linux but in practice defend software patents, if not actively then passively (by refusing to comment on this matter)
A NEW week is about to commence. No more bogus ‘hearings’, which are stacked and …

See part one , part two and part three for more background about this brewing European Patent Office ( EPO ) scandal
Summary : This year the Kötter Group commemorates the 85 th anniversary of its existence. But is it really a cause for celebration or would a less self-congratulatory approach be more fitting? And does it create the risk that a routine tendering exercise at the …

Last week : Système Battistelli (ENArque) at the EPO is Inspired by Système Lamy in Saint-Germain-en Laye
Summary : The EPO ‘s entrance into the “toxic loans” trap as of a few months back (just like in Saint-Germain * ) is a sign of potential trouble ahead; The SIDRU “toxic loan” débâcle is highlighted as per criticism of mayor Lamy (St Germain-en-Laye, where …
