schestowitzI cannot tell you who wrote this, oiaohmOct 05 05:09
oiaohmschestowitz: please not the laws are not new.   There has been a historic duty of care requirement that came in near the end of the industrial revolution.Oct 05 06:18
oiaohmschestowitz: those duty of care laws that have been sitting on the books ignored  are the ones that make organisations require items like Code of conduct.Oct 05 06:19
oiaohmschestowitz: Now if we don't like those laws we need to get the government to remove them.Oct 05 06:19
oiaohmDRM is kind of the same battle.Oct 05 06:20
oiaohmschestowitz: No point being anti Linux kernel having CoC when its a legal requirement for the Kernel to business.    Its better to be anti the laws that force that requirement on the kernel and get those removed.Oct 05 06:22
oiaohmWith DRM we need to be kind of picky what use would hdcp be if we end up with the Linux kernel including software emulation of it for development of secure display applications.Oct 05 06:23
oiaohmschestowitz: you can send that back to them right.Oct 05 06:24
schestowitzI canOct 05 06:24
schestowitzif you want me toOct 05 06:24
oiaohmI really do the big thing is the duty of care laws are not new.   The are the base to most countries work place heath and safety and got children out of factories.....   Yes including way back then pushing of abusive bosses. Oct 05 06:30
oiaohmThe person who wrote that really need to be told that.Oct 05 06:30
oiaohmThe laws were never fine tuned.Oct 05 06:30
<--ogres has quit (Quit: Connection closed for inactivity)Oct 05 06:31
oiaohmThere are stacks of laws sitting in the legal books that people don't get removed that one day may wake up and cause other headaches.   These old laws were woken up by prodecutors trying to get Catholic church for child abuse and other things.Oct 05 06:32
oiaohmIts like me using a 800 year law in a Civil court to win.   Most people are not aware in Civil court you can call opposing lawyer to stand as a  character wittiness and then keep they under oath for the remainder of the trial.   Please note using a law older than the country I am in. Oct 05 06:34
oiaohmschestowitz: even in the USA there are a lot of laws that still were written in England before the USA existed as a country or colonised that still apply in the USA because they have not been written out of the law books.Oct 05 06:36
oiaohmWe do have to watch the laws that get written that could force us to either not be able to use encryption or be forced to use DRM.Oct 05 06:37
oiaohmschestowitz: I know I have not worded that the best.  They need to be told I am not exactly for the CoC I understand the laws that are forcing it.      We really don't need to be like the suffragette over these laws over the laws that force the CoC because that only end up coming evidence why the laws forcing the CoC need to remain in place.   Oct 05 06:40
schestowitzoiaohm: you got a reply:Oct 05 06:43
schestowitz> What a hoot. He seems very sincere, maybe he has a point. I guess the main point he's missing is that we have to do something about unjust laws either way-- we can't just accept them and say "well, that's showbiz..."Oct 05 06:43
schestowitz> Oct 05 06:43
schestowitz> There's a difference between ignoring unjust laws and resisting injustice. This sort of tension exists in every movement to change the world. Just rolling over (or suggesting we just roll over) is pointless and fatalistic.Oct 05 06:43
schestowitz> Oct 05 06:43
schestowitz> Encouraging fatalism is a known tactic in PR as well as a logical fallacy (Appeal to Authority.)Oct 05 06:43
oiaohmschestowitz: tell him to read about the suffragette they did a huge stack things attempting to over turn what were truly unjust laws.     Problem is basically nothing they did worked instead they caused for a long time the laws to be enforce and kept because their actions did not display responsibility.Oct 05 06:45
oiaohmThe hard point with fighting laws is doing nothing is better than fighting the law the wrong ways.Oct 05 06:46
oiaohmchanging laws required having a cool head about it.  It important that you make the unfair law look like a pointless waste of space to be in the law books.Oct 05 06:48
oiaohmThink about it getting in a flame fest and getting abusive for the Linux kernel having a CoC or other project having a CoC  basically comes exactly like stunts the suffragette.    Basically showing abusive behavour that the law exists to stop so the law demarding the CoC end up appearing right because there is abusive behaviour that should not be going onOct 05 06:53
oiaohmschestowitz: basically send that the problem is laws come self reinforcing things if you fight them in the wrong way.     The wrong way basically bad behaviours so making the law appear right when you really don't want the law so you want the law to appear wrong/pointless.Oct 05 06:55
schestowitz>> > Well that's nice. What about Stallman? Let me guess...Oct 05 07:27
oiaohmAs a PR marketing person I really have no problems with Stallman.    As a president of a organisation and other management roles with his biases its been a problem for sometime. Oct 05 07:30
oiaohmEveryone has roles they are competent todo.   I see Stallman as a victim of the https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Peter_principle  where you keep on being promoted until you are dangerously incompetent.\Oct 05 07:32
