Techrights-seccan't the home router re-assign the same IP address?Oct 10 10:53
Techrights-secOr did that go down, too?Oct 10 10:53
schestowitz-TRI asked BT (this year) about static/reserved IP, but there's no way they'll give that to residential customers. I tried several times. Short of UPS for just the router, there's no way around it, but we know the culprit (second time in a year; two strikes is enough.... not a new oven)Oct 10 10:54
Techrights-secHow many amps is the oven drawing and how much is that part of the house'sOct 10 11:15
Techrights-secwiring rated for?Oct 10 11:15
schestowitz-TRI haven't the faintest clue. One thing we noticed though is, after the last such outage (caused by the oven) its heating capacity went down sharpy. You'd need to aim higher for the dial to get the same temps as before.Oct 10 11:16
Techrights-secThe new appliances are engineered to last about 4 maybe 5 years maximum.Oct 10 11:29
schestowitz-TRyes, a known problem... for now we'll use hob/cooker where possible. I don't like microwave, but one is fitted in already.Oct 10 11:30
schestowitz-TRthe only upside of this "utter shit" outage is that it's like a drill/practice on a quiet Sunday and I improve my methods/notes for service recovery. Some of these notes can be shared if tidied up a bit, but physical access is often needed.Oct 10 11:32
Techrights-secYes, at least the timing was reasonably convenient.Oct 10 11:34
schestowitz-TRrianne is on shift, but on an average shift of mine it's under one hour of actual work. for her, maybe 2-3 because she is slower and more diligent.Oct 10 11:35

schestowitz"This is a very good point- getting more detailed examiner's reports/ mark schemes is the only guidance candidates have for is expected in FD4. The exam is already totally changeable year on year with goalposts moving at random - having no mark scheme seems a backwards step."Oct 10 22:05

schestowitzFor an organisation which prides itself in the scientific training of its membership, the comment in the Mercer report that “the reports analysing statistics on PEB examinations written by Julia Gwilt… indicated that candidates who had passed FC1… were more successful than other candidates” is surprising. Julia Gilwit’s report from 2019 actually noted that there were no statistically significant differences in the pass rates between Oct 10 22:05
schestowitzcandidates taking different routes and indeed in 2018 the pass rate in FD4 for candidates who did not take the PEB route was actually higher than for those who did. Rather other factors, such as the level of experience of trainees sitting the exams and the training and support that they received were much more important.Oct 10 22:05
schestowitzToo many of the report’s proposals seem ill thought through and unduly prescriptive. It is naïve at best to think that the current university providers will happily convert their current courses into examination prep for a CIPA exam. If they do not then candidates will simply end up sitting exams twice, once to satisfy the university providers and then again to satisfy CIPA. Or else, the university providers will shut up shop and the burden Oct 10 22:05
schestowitzto teaching trainees the basics of intellectual property law will be handed back to the profession.Oct 10 22:05
schestowitzSimilarly, abolishing the EQE exemption would also mean more exams all round. An easy thing to propose if you are already qualified, less attractive if you aren’t, ignoring that is the time and costs which will be involved in getting trainees prepared for the exams and getting those exams marked.Oct 10 22:05
schestowitzIs this really what the profession needs now, given that the vast majority of the work undertaken by the larger training firms now is before the EPO and not the UKIPO?Oct 10 22:05
