Potential employers are on the look out for people with skills, not the companies they work for or previously worked for. Resumes are screened for the right skills sets, certifications, length of service in the ATS (Applicant Tracking System) to see if candidates are a good match for a [01:36] schestowitz[TR2] particular job opening or not. Then the ATS generates a potential candidate list for interviews - it's all automated, not much human interaction these days. Companies with corrupt management are two a penny in today's business world; IBM and Kyndryl are companies no one in the real world cares about much, except perhaps the corrupt leaders like Alvind and Krabanaugh and of course, the corporate investors. Miss a quarter or two of [01:36] schestowitz[TR2] good results for IBM, and both Alvind and Krabanaugh will be history. And deservedly so. It's capitalism 101. The employees who are left behind after layoffs are invariably US managers and what valuable skills do most of them really have or develop ? A few might be technical, many are not. The Indians get the jobs at lower pay rate, and the US employees are cast aside unemployed to fend for themselves. It's sink or swim in the dog- [01:36] schestowitz[TR2] eat-dog environment now. Why should anyone feel sorry for senior managers, partners, etc. at IBM in the US who get better pay and benefits than the lower rank and file folks that they laid off ? All good things come to an end. When hiring someone, it's all about finding candidates having the right skills, attitude and aptitude. Not about reading comments about IBM on Web sites like this one. New and exciting technology companies ar [01:36] schestowitz[TR2] e born all the time and old ones like IBM die off and disappear - it's part of the cycle of life. Your severance will be limited to whatever is required by provincial (Canada), state (USA) or other (elsewhere) labour laws and standards. In Canada or the USA, you won't be getting rich. The second problem is: how does "doing the minimal" help you? I was a long time software developer there. When I was certain that time was running out, I m [01:42] schestowitz[TR2] ade sure that I did much more that "minimal" to ensure that (a) my skills were as modern as possible and (b) I had positive relations with people both inside and outside of IBM who would be able to help me when time ran out. [01:42] schestowitz[TR2] My point is that the post seems unduly negative. Whatever part of the company you are in, you need to take advantage of whatever you can whenever you can. Even if that means doing more that the minimum to "stay off the radar.""
