On one of those all hands T&O Calls he mentioned that he was on the company jet going to Bangalore and he bragged that he needed help doing Watson X. [19:03] schestowitz[TR2] What skills does he really have? I am no fan of Alvind. He is another b0z0 but at least he has a PhD and some technical skills. Negotiating business deals like effing up the Red Hat disaster by overpaying big time is not one of them but I digress. He does have a doctorate in electrical engineering. [19:03] schestowitz[TR2] In any case Krabanaugh is a big f@t b0z0 [19:03] schestowitz[TR2] 57 minutes ago by Anonymous [19:03] schestowitz[TR2] | 1 reaction (+1/-0) | Reply [19:03] schestowitz[TR2] Post ID: @ch+1ke3n3tjk [19:03] schestowitz[TR2] +1 [19:03] schestowitz[TR2] just quit. company is dogsh1t [19:03] schestowitz[TR2] 1 hour ago by Anonymous [19:03] schestowitz[TR2] | 3 reactions (+2/-1) | Reply [19:03] schestowitz[TR2] Post ID: @cc+1ke3n3tjk [19:03] schestowitz[TR2] +1 [19:03] schestowitz[TR2] @c6 [19:03] schestowitz[TR2] My first line manager keeps sending out emails and slacks to keep upskilling [19:03] schestowitz[TR2] I am a third generation IBM Employee I hope to stay with IBM my whole career [19:03] schestowitz[TR2] 1 hour ago by Anonymous [19:03] schestowitz[TR2] | 1 reaction (+1/-0) | Reply [19:03] schestowitz[TR2] Post ID: @cb+1ke3n3tjk [19:03] schestowitz[TR2] 0 [19:03] schestowitz[TR2] Its all about costs. Nothing more. Management has practiced lowering costs for the last 8-10 years and its accelerating. One of the main CFO talking points on every quarterly earnings call is cost take out. (Eg We are running to the 3 billion dollar cost take out 3 year plan, OR we are upping our cost savings plan by an additional 1 billion). The CFO has commented on every quarterly call for the last 5 years on that [19:03] schestowitz[TR2] subject. Thats where the focus is, and where it will remain. Ask yourself these two questions. If you did 100 hours of Think 40 training, but cost more than a new hire do you feel safe? The second question is just the opposite. If you did zero Think 40 training, but had a skill that would cost IBM more to replace vs keeping you, do you feel safe? From a CFO perspective, Think 40 is a nice to have, but cost savings is an essential t [19:03] schestowitz[TR2] o have. It the law of Krabanaugh upskilling - layoff the people who work hard at their jobs, but keep the toadies and imbeciles who su-k up to IBM management and just sit around doing nothing. That's [19:03] schestowitz[TR2] what corporate IBM has become under Alvind and the Pipmunks. Some things are not going to change anytime soon. If the upper levels of management wanted to hand down a low performance assessment, there were plenty of justifications to do that already cooked into the system. Most of them would stand up better under judicial scrutiny than a few missed think40 hours would. (On the occasions when I pe [19:03] schestowitz[TR2] rsonally wanted to give a low performance assessment, I had crisp, clear reasons and the employee had received multiple warnings and chances to change course.) [19:03] schestowitz[TR2] Think40 was a previous CEOs baby. It continues partly out of inertia and partly because some of the presentations are actually useful and the formal program keeps penny pinching team leads from forbidding your attendance to save an hour. Think40 is more about making a small opportunity available to you than about placing a noose around your neck. Not meeting the 40 hours requirement could be used as justification for giving an employee a lower performance rating.
