schestowitzyesterday i tried installing endless os on a couple of windows machines (not mine.)Sep 04 11:20
schestowitzfirst of all, installation worked on both, dual booted with windows, grub menu on one, weird gui menu (seems windows based) on the other.Sep 04 11:20
schestowitzonly one installation actually booted-- it uses systemd, one of the machines got stuck forever on one of systemds infamous “start job running” errors. was unable to ctrl+alt+fn or ctrl-c and reinstalling didnt help.Sep 04 11:20
schestowitzon the other one, oh boy endless os is LOADED with non-free software. their entire approach to educational software (endless studios) is based on games written in unity (non-free) and everything is an app.Sep 04 11:20
schestowitzwhat theyve done is recreated the android ux using flatpak (controlled by canonical) and gnome shell. apt is practically disabled, though present. ux wise it is full of bloat everywhere, freedom wise this is like android in the making, minus the java.Sep 04 11:20
schestowitzother than that? its interesting. python 2 isnt present, python 3 is, i got pypy running by downloading and unzipping a portable pypy binary (hosted on github, sadly.)Sep 04 11:20
schestowitzbut the non-free software everywhere. endless os has a eula, autoupdate is on by default, and instead of distributing non-free they do it in the style of debian contrib– get unity, get skype, get spotify, get visual codeSep 04 11:20
schestowitzthese “get” app stubs have their own icons on the desktop by default, and thats in the basic version.Sep 04 11:20
schestowitzendless os is not about freedom AT ALL. and gnome and endless are working together to make everyone less free.Sep 04 11:20

schestowitzSure. Not everywhere, but in some places, and especially now the Microsoft has started to port more software (Like .Net and SQL Server) to Linux.Sep 04 16:39
