Updating: Fake seizure notice appears on AlphV site as part of suspected exit scam
    [07:29] schestowitz[TR2]
    [07:29] schestowitz[TR2]

In addition to the fake seizure notice, AlphV changed their tox account status to GG (good game), again suggesting an exit scam.

    [07:29] schestowitz[TR2]

The fake notice and GG appeared consistent with what DataBreaches had been told by a source who had been involved with AlphV. That source told this site that a re-branding had already been in the works, and this just may have sped things up. That source also reiterated that Change Healthcare had paid Alphv as the affiliate had claimed, although Change Healthcare / Optum decl [07:29] schestowitz[TR2] ined to respond to direct questions as to whether they paid ransom. There is still no proof or hard confirmation of payment by Change Healthcare.

Microsoft is killing Windows 11's Android emulator -- no one will miss it

Without any fanfare, the company updated the Windows Subsystem for Android documentation page on its website and included a message stating that WSA won't be supported as of March 5, 2025. The Amazon App Store app, which is required to use and install WSA, is set to disappear from the Microsoft Store as soon as March 6, 2024. However, according to Amazon, users will still be able to downlo [07:36] schestowitz[TR2] ad it from a dedicated link. And anyone who has WSA installed may be able to continue using it even after the end of support.

[12:38] schestowitz[TR2] "" [12:38] schestowitz[TR2] Hello all. [12:38] schestowitz[TR2] Using a LG l19WT-SF (Flatron) [12:38] schestowitz[TR2] My monitor has been bugging me for about 3 days now [12:38] schestowitz[TR2] It started started off with a very high frequency whine which would eventually stop about 10-15 minutes after turning the monitor on. [12:38] schestowitz[TR2] So i figured that a capacitator must have gone / is in the process of going. No biggie. [12:38] schestowitz[TR2] Then i started noticing that the monitor would fade to black before its 'inactivity period is up' this happened once or twice, so i put it down to randomness and ignored it. [12:38] schestowitz[TR2] Also note that there is a very faint electrical burning smell that permeates my room - my nose led me to the back of the monitor where it was strongest. Googled it and apparently it can be common with some LCDs - ok so ignored that too. [12:38] schestowitz[TR2] Fast forward to earlier today: [12:38] schestowitz[TR2] Screen starts flickering during final mission of HOTS campaign - FU. [12:38] schestowitz[TR2] Stop the game and look behind monitor to see a plume of white smoke, and a series of tiny fireworks shooting off inside the back panel. da fuq? [12:38] schestowitz[TR2] Aside from the flickering - still works fine, turns on / off on problem. [12:38] schestowitz[TR2] Now my room stinks of this electrical burning smell. [12:38] schestowitz[TR2] was just posting to ask you guys: Do i need a need a new monitor or should i just keep using my current one, and would it have damaged my gfx card / mobo in anyway? also is the power supply cable to monitor still good? or the cable that connects the monitor to the gfx card? [12:38] schestowitz[TR2] Any help would be much appreciated [12:38] schestowitz[TR2] TL:DR: Monitor started emitting white smoke. Electrial sparks / fireworks in back panel during the smoke. Stinks like burning. [12:38] schestowitz[TR2] DO i need a new monitor? are my cables compromised? can my gfx card / mobo be fucked? [12:38] schestowitz[TR2] thanks ! [12:38] schestowitz[TR2] EDIT: Monitor is like 7 years old" ● Mar 07 [13:04] parsifal schestowitz[TR2]: [13:04] schestowitz[TR2] 0/ [13:04] parsifal schestowitz[TR2]: sorry to ask you like this, it might sound rude but your question sounds like some kind of joke to me, are you kidding me? [13:04] schestowitz[TR2] which question? [13:05] schestowitz[TR2] the above is not me [13:05] parsifal for the monitor [13:05] schestowitz[TR2] i quoted a URL [13:05] schestowitz[TR2] i have a similar monitor [13:05] schestowitz[TR2] same iissue [13:06] parsifal how do i understand this, are you actually having this problem? [13:08] schestowitz[TR2] i looked that up [13:08] schestowitz[TR2] the forum threads suggest there is no fix [13:08] schestowitz[TR2] the monitor must be discarded [13:10] parsifal I agree, as soon as smoke comes out and there is a constant intrusive smell of burnt textolite, plus the presence of sparks, this suggests that somewhere there is a circuit short or some element is defective. [13:10] parsifal everything listed so far is dangerous, starting with the fact that it can break out somewhere and give you a serious electric shock, go through lighting the monitor and causing a fire, and getting to the fact that the fumes from the burning textolite from the circuit board are not the best and good thing for health. [13:10] schestowitz[TR2] this monitor died around 2017 [13:10] schestowitz[TR2] after i had bought it in ebay [13:10] schestowitz[TR2] used it for about a year [13:10] schestowitz[TR2] yesterday i gave it a second chance [13:11] schestowitz[TR2] but nothing improved in about 7 years [13:11] parsifal throw away that old monitor, which most likely already has a burned-out matrix anyway, and it's no good looking at it all day. the only problem is that it's hard to find new 19-20-21 inch monitors if you're used to one. [13:16] schestowitz[TR2] yes [13:16] schestowitz[TR2] that is not an issuee [13:16] schestowitz[TR2] i have 7 monitors [13:16] schestowitz[TR2] my wife uses 5 [13:16] schestowitz[TR2] this one is redundant [13:16] schestowitz[TR2] i just wondered if anything improved [13:16] schestowitz[TR2] and then, if prospects of repair exist [13:24] parsifal even if there is potentially a hypothetical possibility to fix the problem, from an economic point of view such a move is not expedient, because at the prices of service services, with the price you will pay in the service you will be able to buy a new monitor. [13:24] parsifal a repair would only be justified if you can do it yourself and have the parts you need available ● Mar 07 [15:31] *psydroid2 (~psydroid@u8ftxtfux23wk.irc) has joined #techbytes [15:57] *jacobk has quit (Ping timeout: 2m30s) ● Mar 07 [16:53] *jacobk (~quassel@hqipcnw2u5ica.irc) has joined #techbytes ● Mar 07 [17:19] *jacobk has quit (Ping timeout: 2m30s) [17:36] *parsifal has quit (Quit: Leaving) ● Mar 07 [19:55] *Noisytoot has quit (Ping timeout: 2m30s) [19:56] *Noisytoot (~noisytoot@tkbibjhmbkvb8.irc) has joined #techbytes ● Mar 07 [20:02] *Noisytoot has quit (Ping timeout: 2m30s) [20:04] *Noisytoot (~noisytoot@tkbibjhmbkvb8.irc) has joined #techbytes [20:05] *jacobk (~quassel@32hz32it3ih2k.irc) has joined #techbytes [20:08] *Noisytoot has quit (Ping timeout: 2m30s) [20:11] *Noisytoot (~noisytoot@tkbibjhmbkvb8.irc) has joined #techbytes [20:52] *psydruid (~psydruid@jevhxkzmtrbww.irc) has left #techbytes [20:53] *psydruid (~psydruid@jevhxkzmtrbww.irc) has joined #techbytes ● Mar 07 [21:34] schestowitz[TR2] http://ipkitten.blogspot.com/2024/03/when-in-rome-do-as-romans-do-rome-court.html?showComment=1709719396344#c8512732737711838954 [21:34] -TechBytesBot/#techbytes-ipkitten.blogspot.com | When in Rome, do as the Romans do? Rome court misinterprets CJEU YouTube judgment and reduces criteria for primary liability of platform operators to checklist - The IPKat [21:34] schestowitz[TR2] "A very interesting text, as usual, and a very intriguing judgement. I think it is worth clarifying a few things for potential readers.

First of all, in relation to the liability of hosting providers, it should be noted that the DSA provides for exemptions for all types of liability, as stated in recital 17 of the DSA:

"Furthermore, the exemptions from liability established in this Regulation should appl [21:34] schestowitz[TR2] y in respect of any type of liability as regards any type of illegal content, irrespective of the precise subject matter or nature of those laws." This therefore refers to both primary and secondary civil, criminal and administrative liability.

However, the provisions of Article 17 of the DSM Directive are lex specialis to the DSA and do not affect the concept of public communication of a work. It is therefore a leg [21:34] schestowitz[TR2] al fiction that even if there is no communication of a work within the meaning of the InfoSoc Directive, it is still deemed to take place if the conditions of Article 17 of the DSM Directive are met (primarily as not new, unless "popular", OCSSPs, see Article 17(6)). This is clearly confirmed by the European Commission's Communication COM(2021) 288 final (and the aforementioned DSA recitals):

"Article 17 [21:34] schestowitz[TR2] is a lex specialis to Article 3 of Directive 2001/29/EC and Article 14 of Directive 2000/31/EC. It does not introduce a new right in the Unions copyright monopoly law. Rather, it fully and specifically regulates the act of communication to the public in the limited circumstances covered by this provision for the purposes of this Directive. This is confirmed by Recitals 64 and 65. Recital 64 states that Article 17 do [21:34] schestowitz[TR2] es not affect the concept of communication to the public or of making content available to the public elsewhere under Union law 5 , nor does it affect the possible application of Article 3(1) and (2) of Directive 2001/29/EC to other service providers using copyright-protected content. Recital 65 states that whilst Article 14 of Directive 2000/31 does not apply to the liability under Article 17, this should not affect its applicatio [21:34] schestowitz[TR2] n to such service providers for purposes falling outside the scope of the Directive. Due to the lex specialis nature of Article 17, the Member States should specifically implement this provision rather than relying simply on their national implementation of Article 3 of Directive 2001/29/EC.""
