[05:29] schestowitz[TR2] No, Windows 10 will not stop working only because the support is [05:29] schestowitz[TR2] over, some programs will start asking Windows 11+, but that will require [05:29] schestowitz[TR2] years just like with windows 8 and 7 which was done like 2 years ago even [05:29] schestowitz[TR2] if they died years ago. [05:29] schestowitz[TR2] Thats the only thing, if apps start asking for Windows 11, because not [05:29] schestowitz[TR2] receiving updates is not a negative it is a plus for some people. [05:29] schestowitz[TR2] If you are going to downgrade to an inferior OS, that barely has any [05:29] schestowitz[TR2] software support because most professional software is either Windows or [05:29] schestowitz[TR2] Mac, and in some cases Windows only. it just sounds like a ridiculous [05:29] schestowitz[TR2] attempt to change OS, when you can easily just upgrade to 11, with rufus or [05:29] schestowitz[TR2] something. [05:29] schestowitz[TR2] I have windows 11 in a 10 year old computer, missing the TPM module and [05:29] schestowitz[TR2] with an old CPU obviously, and it is running okay, I have WSL and all [05:29] schestowitz[TR2] running there because I need to build some stuff that was made for Linux [05:29] schestowitz[TR2] and there is no point to troubleshoot it when I can just do it through WSL [05:29] schestowitz[TR2] in the terminal. [05:29] schestowitz[TR2] These kind of attempts are so ridiculous, because it is known that people [05:29] schestowitz[TR2] can just install Linux un old computers, and some people have done it [05:29] schestowitz[TR2] but do they care? no. Also, they make words like help users keep [05:29] schestowitz[TR2] blabla when Linux is full of issues when it comes to hardware [05:29] schestowitz[TR2] compatibility, yeah hardware can run, but will it run as it should? I [05:29] schestowitz[TR2] can install Windows in old hardware but it doesnt mean that will get GPU [05:29] schestowitz[TR2] drivers to work correctly and I will have to stay using basic display [05:29] schestowitz[TR2] driver, same with audio. So only because something runs, doesnt mean it [05:29] schestowitz[TR2] is running as it should, and this is the reason why Linux people are always [05:29] schestowitz[TR2] having issues about everything, like running Chromium browsers properly [05:29] schestowitz[TR2] with hardware acceleration. [05:29] schestowitz[TR2] In the end, people just care about how easy is to run their software, [05:29] schestowitz[TR2] especially if they only have Mac/Windows versions, if the program runs, [05:29] schestowitz[TR2] then nothing else matters, and if you can upgrade to Windows 11 by removing [05:29] schestowitz[TR2] the restrictions and keep all your programs running and the license will [05:29] schestowitz[TR2] work fine, then why would anyone with 3 braincells will downgrade to Linux? [05:29] schestowitz[TR2] Just look how many people would rather run an unlicensed Windows with [05:29] schestowitz[TR2] a watermark (even if it is easy to use massgravel to get a HWID Windows [05:29] schestowitz[TR2] license and even upgrade licenses from Home to Pro for example), but they [05:29] schestowitz[TR2] never sat and said oh maybe Linux will work better no not many [05:29] schestowitz[TR2] care, Windows is still and will always be a superior OS because it just [05:29] schestowitz[TR2] works, and you can still disable everything that is not needed and make it [05:29] schestowitz[TR2] so light that it will not run anything else, of course, with how easy is to [05:29] schestowitz[TR2] upgrade computer components now, what is the point but running Windows with [05:29] schestowitz[TR2] just CMD and no Explorer will obviously save resources and run less stuff [05:29] schestowitz[TR2] in the background if needed, disabling any other service that is not needed [05:29] schestowitz[TR2] and using 3rd party apps to make things easy like Far manager or something. [05:29] schestowitz[TR2] But anyway, maybe 3 persons will go Linux? its always a clown show when [05:29] schestowitz[TR2] people start saying how happy they are without Windows, but still asking [05:29] schestowitz[TR2] questions how to use X or Y program in Linux or find alternatives because [05:29] schestowitz[TR2] their software either runs like crap or you have to do a lot of things to [05:29] schestowitz[TR2] make something run, when in Windows it just worked. Just look the [05:29] schestowitz[TR2] difference of Windows + WSL vs Linux with non-native Windows programs [05:29] schestowitz[TR2] through a lot of hacks. its a totally different experience, and [05:29] schestowitz[TR2] its just this lame human Microsoft sucks that seem to blind the [05:29] schestowitz[TR2] low IQ people into believing running terminal for every little situation is [05:29] schestowitz[TR2] actually useful and cool, even if it is just to fix sounds issues or to [05:29] schestowitz[TR2] make Chromium browsers work properly, etc etc.." [05:29] schestowitz[TR2] There was long time ago when I experimented with multiple versions of [05:29] schestowitz[TR2] Linux, and I literally hated it, because to me it was like switching from [05:29] schestowitz[TR2] English to Chinese, and I assume this didnt change in new versions. It [05:29] schestowitz[TR2] doesnt mean that Linux is bad, its just not for a user, for decades [05:29] schestowitz[TR2] accustomed to Windows, which even English language I can understand, [05:29] schestowitz[TR2] vs Linux gibberish Chinese. [05:29] schestowitz[TR2] Aside of that Windows have huge support from alternate sources, on which I [05:29] schestowitz[TR2] rely, completely ignoring Ms support. [05:29] schestowitz[TR2] I prefer the way how I can customise Windows by slimming them down and [05:29] schestowitz[TR2] disabling (throwing out) everything I dont like. Windows firewall [05:29] schestowitz[TR2] handled with WFC is great, and protects enough that I dont need AV SW [05:29] schestowitz[TR2] which I am not using from the day when AV SW became permanently connected [05:29] schestowitz[TR2] to their servers like oxygen line to the deep diver suite and with this [05:29] schestowitz[TR2] they became like intruder in a home. [05:29] schestowitz[TR2] Also I completely disable updates, and never had any problems, because [05:29] schestowitz[TR2] everything works. [05:29] schestowitz[TR2] Of course, I am not an average user, I think I am quite advanced, although [05:29] schestowitz[TR2] far from real gurus, or those with programing skills, but I think that I [05:29] schestowitz[TR2] managed to tame my Windows to the level they keep quiet, unable to call Ms [05:29] schestowitz[TR2] mommy & daddy. Same I am doing with Firefox, and up to now both [05:29] schestowitz[TR2] behave." Stallman said on June 5, 2025 at 3:01 pm [05:29] schestowitz[TR2] Minor detail is that KDE is just a veneer desktop environment (with a few [05:29] schestowitz[TR2] native apps), sitting on top of generic Linux underpinnings. Installing any [05:29] schestowitz[TR2] complete GNU Linux OS by a novice, non geek is totally dependent on an [05:29] schestowitz[TR2] heroic Linux installer. If it fails or misses in any way or in part, then [05:29] schestowitz[TR2] the end user will then most certainly need to learn the more esoteric [05:29] schestowitz[TR2] underpinnings of the OS. Including having to understand and navigate the [05:29] schestowitz[TR2] command line/terminals cryptic drudgery. [05:29] schestowitz[TR2] To a novice, its a crap-shoot at best whether all your devices will be [05:29] schestowitz[TR2] found and properly configured. All that before you can even try to evaluate [05:29] schestowitz[TR2] whether the alternative apps/programs available will meet your even basic [05:29] schestowitz[TR2] needs. [05:29] schestowitz[TR2] Windows is the complete OS. And even though Microsoft has become more and [05:29] schestowitz[TR2] more controlling and user hostile over the years, Windows remains the only [05:29] schestowitz[TR2] viable desktop OS environment for most end users. [05:29] schestowitz[TR2] A complete GNU Linux Desktop OS could have been a real competitor to [05:29] schestowitz[TR2] Windows but was held back by Richard M. Stallman of the FSF Free Software [05:29] schestowitz[TR2] Foundation. The FSF is the only entity that could have pulled all the [05:29] schestowitz[TR2] needed players under one tent for a generic Linux desktop. But RMS was such [05:29] schestowitz[TR2] an unmitigated acerbic A-Hole, demanding that only Free/Libre software [05:29] schestowitz[TR2] could be used on any system he would endorse/allow. Absolutely prohibiting [05:29] schestowitz[TR2] any closed source applications or binaries. [05:29] schestowitz[TR2] Had he allowed them in an official FSF end user desktop, Linux would have [05:29] schestowitz[TR2] taken off. [05:29] schestowitz[TR2] Ive always refer to this attitude as his absolute prohibition on [05:29] schestowitz[TR2] allowing OS training wheels.""
