[03:59] schestowitz She's over 66 years old. [03:59] schestowitz Two days ago when I told her everyone is laying off and the economy is falling apart, she said "Oh there's tons of jobs out there and nobody wants to work but thank God I'm a nurse. I haven't ever been laid off since 1981!" [03:59] schestowitz Two days ago. [03:59] schestowitz Today she called me and she was just beside herself that the Catholics shut the place down and said that the other nursing homes in the city are all staffed up and the hospital treats their nurses like shit and doesn't pay them what she's used to making. [03:59] schestowitz That place is crazy. It's never been ran well. Sometimes the paychecks bounced and the Diocese office wrote personal checks. [03:59] schestowitz It's a disaster. She didn't want to believe that this could ever happen, but when the paychecks start bouncing and have to be covered with personal checks from the church directly and they start selling or donating all the land and buildings around the place.... [03:59] schestowitz They probably donated the 100+ acres to the nature preserve because under private ownership they were probably paying something in property tax on it. [03:59] schestowitz They were never going to build anything there and nobody would have wanted to buy it because the economy in that area was bad before things fell apart. [03:59] schestowitz So it;s a nature preserve now and off their books. [03:59] schestowitz They said the 22 weeks severance will be a lump sum. [03:59] schestowitz Knowing them they'll change their mind at the last minute, or only pay half that or something. [03:59] schestowitz They do things like this all the time. [03:59] schestowitz One year, they emailed everyone that they were going to get a really nice Christmas bonus check and then they said that the email went out by accident and here's a $10 gift card to the supermarket. [03:59] schestowitz I asked her if she was planning to kidnap her boss like Clark Griswold in Christmas Vacation over the "Jelly of the Month Club". ● Apr 08 [04:15] *Noisytoot has quit (Ping timeout: 2m30s) [04:37] *Noisytoot (~noisytoot@tkbibjhmbkvb8.irc) has joined #techbytes [04:40] *Noisytoot has quit (Ping timeout: 2m30s) [04:56] *Noisytoot (~noisytoot@tkbibjhmbkvb8.irc) has joined #techbytes ● Apr 08 [05:31] *Noisytoot has quit (Ping timeout: 2m30s) ● Apr 08 [06:31] *psydruid (~psydruid@jevhxkzmtrbww.irc) has left #techbytes [06:32] *psydruid (~psydruid@jevhxkzmtrbww.irc) has joined #techbytes ● Apr 08 [08:21] schestowitz

Raspberry Pi powers a five-foot magic mirror that doubles as a retro gaming console

Magic mirrors have become well-known in the Raspberry Pi community as a go-to project for many new makers. As cool as they are, they're also widespread. However, we came across this magic mirror project put together by David from Element 14 and thought it was different and exciting enough to share. This magic mirror is massive, one of the biggest we've ever seen and doubles as a retro gaming pl [08:21] schestowitz atform.

C++ web app with Crow: early scalability results
    [08:37] schestowitz
    [08:37] schestowitz

At the time, I had wanted to compare with a C++ library, and I ended up trying the lithium framework which scaled very well.

Jake Arkinstall pointed out that he uses Crow, to build web applications in C++. So I decided to take Crow out on a spin.
