They don't have a Monopoly on the Play store. I use alternative stores as well. A significant percentage of the games I've ever bought for Android came from the Humble Bundle. My Minds program comes from the Minds site. My KDE Connect software comes from an alternative app store.

Sure some of the "best" stuff is Play only, I can't seem to find a map program that beats Waze, but that's not a monopoly. One of my old phones I actually put LineageOS on and it's Google-free and still Android.
