In principle, this means that the actual costs for the journey should be reimbursed: [02:10] schestowitz[TR2] Travel expenses, actually incurred for the outward and return journey between the place of employment and his home, for such leave shall be reimbursed to the employee concerned [02:10] schestowitz[TR2] The implementation of these reimbursements are regulated by Circ. 22, Rule 10: [02:10] schestowitz[TR2] For pragmatic reasons, the administration proposes a lump-sum approach in Rule 10(c)(i). [02:10] schestowitz[TR2] However, it is also possible to request reimbursement of the actual expenses incurred, in line with Rule 10(c)(ii). Such a request should be made before the home leave (except in cases of force majeure). [02:10] schestowitz[TR2] It makes sense to request reimbursement of the actual expenses one incurs to travel to & from their place of home leave (with their family), if these exceed the lump-sum calculation. [02:10] schestowitz[TR2] When requesting home leave, the administration will provide you with a calculation for your expenses. If the calculation comprises a total sum of travel expenses that is lower than the actual expenses you incurred for the travel, we encourage you to request the reimbursement of your actual costs and to do so before the actual journey. (Bear in mind youll of course need the invoices/tickets/proof of payment to establish your [02:10] schestowitz[TR2] actual travel costs towards the administration)" [02:13] schestowitz[TR2] " This newsletter is about the important subject of invalidity, at the example of a recent judgment of the Court of Justice which confirms that the term invalidity in the context of the entitlement of staff to an invalidity allowance can only be interpreted as an incapacity to fulfil the duties within the own institution. If found invalid there, the staff member cannot be referred to the general labour market with the argument that [02:13] schestowitz[TR2] he/she would be not invalid outside the institution. In other words, an invalidity allowance has to be granted independent of the capacity of the staff member to perform work on the general labour market." How YOU Help With Quality
    [06:27] schestowitz[TR2]
    [06:27] schestowitz[TR2]

In todays other blog post, I mentioned how weve been getting a huge number of bug reports since the Mega-Release. If youre not in software engineering, this probably seems like a bad thing. Oh no, why so many bugs? Didnt you test your software properly!?

    [06:27] schestowitz[TR2]

Since most people are not involved in software engineering, this perspective is common and understandable. So Id like to shed a light on the assumptions behind it, and talk about the challenges involved in improving software quality, which is a passion of mine.

This week in KDE: a deluge of new features
    [06:28] schestowitz[TR2]
    [06:28] schestowitz[TR2]

The floodgates are fully open and developers have started landing juicy features for Plasma 6.1!

    [06:28] schestowitz[TR2]

But not just that we asked for bug reports and you folks gave us bug reports! Usually we get 30-50 per day, but now were up to 150-200. Its kind of crazy.

    [06:28] schestowitz[TR2]

Now, this doesnt mean the software is actually really buggy. It means that people are using the software! Most of the bug reports actually not about KDE issues at all: graphics driver issues, bugs in themes, and bugs in 3rd-party apps. And many are duplicates of existing known issues, or really weird exotic issues only reproducible with specific combinations of off-by-default s [06:28] schestowitz[TR2] ettings.

Fancy running another OS on Raspberry Pi 5?
    [06:29] schestowitz[TR2]
    [06:29] schestowitz[TR2]

We recommend that if you want to experiment with different distros for your Pi, don't use the official Raspberry Pi Imager program to write your SD card. With the Pi OS, the Imager helpfully tries to put some settings into the Pi OS for you, such as a username, default Wi-Fi network and password, and so on. The problem is that it doesn't notice if the OS it's writing is not the Pi OS, and tries to [06:29] schestowitz[TR2] modify these settings anyway, even when we asked it not to. When the target's not the Pi distro, this caused problems.

    [06:29] schestowitz[TR2]

Although it is admittedly one of our go-to examples of application bloat, Balena Etcher is simple, free, works well, and it offers versions for Windows, macOS, and Linux albeit all x86. (Which is why it's a nearly 100 MB download. It's a JavaScript app so it needs a whole web browser as its runtime, meaning that the package bundles what's effectively a copy of Chromium.)
