[09:16] -TechBytesBot/#techbytes-liam-on-linux.dreamwidth.org | liam_on_linux | A fresh look at FreeBSD [09:16] schestowitz[09:16] schestowitzBut currently, it is much much too hard to install, even if it's better than it was, and it is going to scare Linux people off unless they are seriously hardcore.
[09:16] schestowitzI've been running TrueNAS Core on my home NAS for a while now and I like it. So far it's been bulletproof.
[09:16] schestowitzThere is potential in this OS, but it needs to work a bit harder on its outreach. Pick a nice simple default desktop, something that isn't mainstream in the Linux world for differentiation -- Xfce works great -- and a simple clean default set of apps. Something akin to an Ubuntu Minimal Install: desktop, file manager, maybe some viewers, text editor, and a good browser.

[09:23] schestowitzIs this string really a legitimate URL? What is a URL? How is it parsed?

But Estonian artist Tauno Erik has done something a bit different thanks to embedded hardware and the power of tinyML. His work is able to actively respond to a person whenever they bring up a cell phone to take a picture of it.

[11:55] schestowitz[11:55] schestowitzIve seen some mediocre automated translations of my Dutch language resignation statement go round. To prevent any confusion, please find the story here in English:
[11:55] schestowitzUntil today I was one of the three members of the board that checks warrants for the Dutch intelligence and security services. This board is called Toetsingscommissie Inzet Bevoegdheden or TIB.
