The following items were on the agenda: [03:46] schestowitz[TR2] Guidelines on Rewards 2025 for consultation GCC/DOC 01/2025 [03:46] schestowitz[TR2] Office wide organisational adjustments 2025 Stream 2 for information GCC/DOC 02/2025 [03:46] schestowitz[TR2] From GCC/DOC 01/2025 it is apparent, that also this year, Mr Campinos does not exhaust the budget approved in the Administration Council for rewards and decreases purposefully the envelope for step(s) and promotions by -2.600 mil EUR. Only 60% of eligible staff can be rewarded with step(s) or promotion. The unused budget corresponds to around 700 additional steps which should have been awarded to staff. [03:46] schestowitz[TR2] In the GCC meeting, we pointed out that there is no financial justification for keeping such a low ceiling. Management answered: We had this ceiling last year. There is no reason to change. We cannot reward everyone. (sic!) [03:46] schestowitz[TR2] GCC/DOC 02/2025 refers to the reorganisation of the Principal Directorate People with three directorates named People something: [03:46] schestowitz[TR2] People Planning and Talent Management, [03:46] schestowitz[TR2] People Engagement and Development, [03:46] schestowitz[TR2] People Services and Well-being. [03:46] schestowitz[TR2] If People and Engagement were really Drivers of the SP2028, Mr Campinos would care about rewarding the high efforts of staff. A L [04:50] schestowitz[TR2] "Hi Miles, [04:50] schestowitz[TR2] I believe in the coming days censorship-resilient communication and data [04:50] schestowitz[TR2] storage facilities will be important for all the people you are trying to [04:50] schestowitz[TR2] address, in fact I believe this to be the first order of business. Government [04:50] schestowitz[TR2] sites forcibly shut down (or what is worse, altered), news stopped (or what is [04:50] schestowitz[TR2] worse, poisoned by disinformation) are the new normal, and there is no reason [04:50] schestowitz[TR2] to believe the Internet Archive, or even Wikipedia, are safe. [04:50] schestowitz[TR2] Therefore I propose re-activating large swaths of usenet (as opposed to all [04:50] schestowitz[TR2] kinds of semi-centralized or fully centralized social media sites) to address [04:50] schestowitz[TR2] the communication problem. This is low tech (push comes to shove, can be run [04:50] schestowitz[TR2] over phone lines) and worked well until google started to gobble it up. As a [04:50] schestowitz[TR2] concerned citizen, I am happy to take out a $100/year subscription with one of [04:50] schestowitz[TR2] the few remaining providers, but need help becoming a redistribution site. (I [04:50] schestowitz[TR2] propose to redistribute for free.) [04:50] schestowitz[TR2] There are several hurdles: creating a well-configurable setup, adding [04:50] schestowitz[TR2] facilities for limiting the bandwidth devoted to this, maybe encryption, [04:50] schestowitz[TR2] randomization of transmission times, and advertising the service to non-paying [04:50] schestowitz[TR2] participants. Look this forum has a lot of angry people with a lot people who want to express their anger and disappointment, some rightfully so. I retired after 22 years with IBM and worked most of my career with evolving modern technologies. I always took the bull by the ho-n and quickly became an expert in these technologies. I did a lot of learning on my own from my own personal dedication a [06:45] schestowitz[TR2] nd hunger to learn. Likewise I am not ashamed of any of my previous employers who were/are leaders in their industries. I previously worked at a major worldwide construction equipment manufacturer and another computer industry company who paved the way for mini computers, networking, server clustering, middleware, and the Internet. Did executives make mistakes at all these companies. They sure did and the computer industry company [06:45] schestowitz[TR2] got acquired twice. But I would not trade my experiences for anything and am happy and grateful for the opportunities I had at all of these companies. I am retired now but still have a tank full of gas to pursue my next opportunity. Individual health insurance can easily be $1000 a month, and a lot more if you have dependents. 2 years' compensation is almost unheard of, unless you had evidence of some major wrongdoing, like being stripped na--d and whipped by your FLM, and even then, I'm pretty sure IBM's lawyers and HR would find a way to spin it as your fault or [06:47] schestowitz[TR2] bury it because what is the BCG for but a blueprint of rules to be violated that have about as much value as toilet paper? [06:47] schestowitz[TR2] 2 years would be an insanely good buyout in the U.S. I bet a good number of people would've taken it. I would've taken it and danced a jig on my way out if they'd offered me that. " [06:48] schestowitz[TR2] " [06:48] schestowitz[TR2] In Ontario Canada, based on common law precedent, if you have a great performance record and IBM is not able to spin it to say you were let go for cause, then you may be able to collect one month per year of service, to a maximum of 24 months in most cases. They don't just hand this over though - you have to hire a lawyer and fight, and I understand the lawyer takes something like 35% so best case for a lifer at IBM might be to wal [06:48] schestowitz[TR2] k away with 16 months. Before anybody in the US starts to get jealous, keep in mind that we get paid similar amounts in terms of the dollar figure, but everything here costs about 50% more than it costs there, so we spend a lifetime paying more for everything and then get this little payoff at the very end of a long career, and not without a potentially stressful and unpleasant fight. [17:32] schestowitz[TR2][17:32] schestowitz[TR2]A while back, there was a discussion about moving Plasma to a twice-yearly release model, to better align with discrete release distros that also have two yearly releases mostly Fedora KDE and Kubuntu.
[17:32] schestowitz[TR2]We discussed this at last years Akademy and decided not to do it yet, based on the reason that a faster release schedule would help get important Wayland improvements to users more quickly, given that were trying to polish up our Wayland session at high speed. We agreed that once the Wayland Known Significant Issues wiki page is empty, we can re-evaluate.

[17:33] schestowitz[TR2][17:33] schestowitz[TR2]The wait is over! Four months after the major Plasma 6.2 release, followed by five minor updates, the last one being Plasma 6.2.5, the KDE desktop environment, beloved by many, has just rolled out the much-anticipated Plasma 6.3. Without further ado, lets see what has changed.
