[03:05] schestowitz[TR3] It seems that law enforcement right now sees no reason to do anything about this guy, neither in his home country nor in France (where the Debconf is). Entering France seems to be fine too. And it seems that Canonical employs, and sees no reason to fire, him. [03:05] schestowitz[TR3] So let me tell you, many pople (especially outside of the US) don't subscribe to this lynch mob / cancel culture mindset. If Canonical sends an employee there to talk about some technical things, and the state of France is fine with him walking around freely, he can. It's not the task of the conference organizers to research and judge the whole past of each person there. [03:05] schestowitz[TR3] And its not up to you to restrict what he can do. If you have a real-world problem, complain to law enforcement. [03:05] schestowitz[TR3] " [03:06] schestowitz[TR3] " [03:06] schestowitz[TR3] In your opinion, what do you think should happen to people who serve sentences for violent crimes they've committed? Permanent exile? Prohibition from work or public appearance? I'm just asking. I don't think any of those are very useful. They don't prevent people from committing violent crime, they don't prevent people from reoffending. You mention in another comment that this person has since been fired, but what betterment does [03:06] schestowitz[TR3] society actually receive from that? [03:06] schestowitz[TR3] I think organizations should be able to remove their members for a wide array of reasons, but your post doesn't offer much in the way of reasoning for why that would have been effective here.
