Debian 12.11 Released with Security Fixes and Stability Updates
    [16:43] schestowitz[TR2]
    [16:43] schestowitz[TR2]

Over two months after its previous 12.10 release, the Debian Project rolled out the eleventh update of its stable 12 Bookworm series, primarily focusing on improving security and addressing bugs across various packages.

    [16:43] schestowitz[TR2]

If youve been keeping your system updated through security.debian.org, theres not much to do with this releasemost of the fixes were already included in earlier updates. 12.11 just brings them together in one place. However, if youre doing a fresh install, this is the version to download and set up.

[20:34] schestowitz[TR2] Programmers bore the brunt of Microsofts layoffs in its home state as AI writes up to 30% of its code [20:34] schestowitz[TR2] Coders were hit hardest among Microsofts 2,000-person layoff in its home state of Washington, Bloomberg reports. [20:34] schestowitz[TR2] Over 40% of the people laid off were in software engineering, making it by far the largest category, Bloomberg found based on state filings. Relatively few sales or marketing positions were affected, Bloomberg added. [20:34] schestowitz[TR2] To be fair, coders are a big chunk of Microsofts workforce, although it doesnt disclose the exact proportion. The cuts are part of recent layoffs at Microsoft affecting about 6,000 people. [20:34] schestowitz[TR2] Still, these cuts come after CEO Satya Nadella said last month that up to 30% of the companys code was now written by AI. [20:34] schestowitz[TR2] TechCrunch asked Microsoft if the layoffs were motivated by the rise of AI-assisted coding. The tech giant declined to comment. Microsoft has said the layoffs are aimed at reducing management layers. The company did not respond to questions about the scope of the cuts, if more were coming to the Bay Area and what types of severance payments workers might receive. [20:38] schestowitz[TR2] Jones added that the company is cutting managers to reduce layers and said Microsoft has regularly adjusted its workforce, "even in the best of times." The company, which owns LinkedIn and gaming company Activision Blizzard, also laid off 10,000 workers at the beginning of 2023, part of a wave of dramatic cuts at the biggest tech companies. Microsoft Chief Financial Officer Amy Hood referenced potential layoffs in an April earnings [20:38] schestowitz[TR2] call, saying the company was expecting to start modifying staff by "reducing layers" at Microsoft. Just a day prior, CEO Satya Nadella said 20% to 30% of the company's existing software code was written by artificial intelligence instead of human engineers, TechCrunch reported.
