schestowitz[TR2]@cd At IBM, "continuing to reinvent themselves" means throwing sh-t at the wall and seeing what sticks. Which lies do we think consumers will believe? Pick the top two or three, then do a PowerPoint and advertising blitz until the public realizes we're full of sh-t. Next, layoff a bunch of employees to make it look like we're focusing on a new technology and becoming more efficient. All the while the executives rake in the bonuses.Jun 19 05:06

schestowitz[TR2]@bq - Did you ever hear about Enron? Maybe you were not even born at that time. FYI, at its peak in August 2000, Enron was worth approximately $70 billion in market capitalization. During this time, the company's shares reached an all-time high of $90.75 each, and it was famously named America's "Most Innovative Company" for six consecutive years by Fortune magazine. The company's financial stature just before its collapse can be suJun 19 05:08

schestowitz[TR2]People have been predicting IBM's bankruptcy for 30 years. Meanwhile IBM keeps generating profits, paying dividends, buying companies, investing billions in AI and quantum computing, and signing enterprise contracts. schestowitz[TR2]"I agree - my experience of it has been so poor that it honestly makes me question the people who are so in favour of it. I've definitely taken some useful points from this series but it's been so entirely positive that it feels like the IPKat has an Hey Hi (AI) agent to sell us!"Jun 19 18:09
schestowitz[TR2]The recent message by Mr. Jean Louis contains much Japanese text.Jun 19 18:49
schestowitz[TR2]I believe few list subscribers can understand Japanese.  Here are myJun 19 18:49
schestowitz[TR2]observations:Jun 19 18:49
schestowitz[TR2]1. The Japanese is not natural.Jun 19 18:49
schestowitz[TR2]2. It is hard to digest.  A person given just the Japanese in the messageJun 19 18:49
schestowitz[TR2]   would have great difficulties seeing the point.Jun 19 18:49
schestowitz[TR2]3. It contains a word that FSF/GNU Project does not endorse.  In factJun 19 18:49
schestowitz[TR2]   Richard Stallman has spent considerable effort telling people to useJun 19 18:49
schestowitz[TR2]   the proper term.Jun 19 18:49
schestowitz[TR2]   For detailed information please read this prior message:Jun 19 18:49

schestowitz[TR2]   It's a poignant tale.Jun 19 18:49
schestowitz[TR2]I believe in the freedom of thought and freedom of expression.  If someoneJun 19 18:49
schestowitz[TR2]wants to disagree with Stallman and use a word he dislikes, he has theJun 19 18:49
schestowitz[TR2]freedom to do so.  One is in such cases advised to explain the reason.Jun 19 18:49
schestowitz[TR2]Please forgive me for being harsh.Jun 19 18:49

schestowitz[TR2]Let me share some of my thoughts.  I think that the points Mr. JeanJun 19 18:51

schestowitz[TR2]It is AI-assisted/generated translation, I suppose.  And it wouldJun 19 18:51
schestowitz[TR2]suggest we need to be careful for the technology.Jun 19 18:51
schestowitz[TR2](IMHO, use of AI tool should be explicitly addressed.)Jun 19 18:51
schestowitz[TR2]If you speak Japanese, you can easily find it's strange text.  ForJun 19 18:51
schestowitz[TR2]others, it would look possibly "great".  And even if it looks strange,Jun 19 18:51
schestowitz[TR2]occasionally, it has good points.Jun 19 18:51
schestowitz[TR2]We have similar situation in security reports for software.  These days,Jun 19 18:51
schestowitz[TR2]it's common that Free Software Projects receive AI slop reports.  ForJun 19 18:51
schestowitz[TR2]experts, it's just annoying, but we can't ignore because: even if itJun 19 18:51

schestowitz[TR2]reading such reports is a waste of time.)Jun 19 18:51
schestowitz[TR2]Well, as one of Free Software developers, indeed, we have some problems.Jun 19 18:51
schestowitz[TR2]I list some and put short comments of mine.Jun 19 18:51
schestowitz[TR2]* AI scrapersJun 19 18:51
schestowitz[TR2]Our development site, dev.gnupg.org, suffers from AI scrapers, a lot.  IJun 19 18:51

schestowitz[TR2]* AI slop reportsJun 19 18:51
