So it is time to tell it. [08:25] schestowitz[TR2] We need to talk about a topic or one more than topics. Because Free Software Movement is complex and we need to tell to end-users, developers, admins, artists and any other people who likes GNU and Free Software us better. And also we need to be organized. #fsf IRC Channel is a good place for this purpose I guess. Please tell me if there is another option also. [08:25] schestowitz[TR2] I suggest talking about the hacker culture, the rise of it and the MIT hacker school issue and the birth of Free Software Movement and also the birth of copyleft license. [08:25] schestowitz[TR2] Since we have many ideas to talk please let me know what to do and what we can talk more. [08:25] schestowitz[TR2] Thanks and happy hacking ! [08:25] schestowitz[TR2] Given the current threats to free software, science, critical thinking etc, perhaps we need to promote what we have in 2025 rather than looking at the past. [08:25] schestowitz[TR2] So we can have discussions around how free software is used in Open Science [08:25] schestowitz[TR2] AI is encroaching, do we want big tech in charge or smaller more open solutions (they exist, and work) [08:25] schestowitz[TR2] https://news.itsfoss.com/open-euro-llm/ [08:25] schestowitz[TR2] I know Carmen is working on MissionLibre, but is not ready to launch yet, I do get the feeling sometimes that we keep repeating ourselves, MissionLibre has the potential to onboard the next generation of developers BUT we need to get our act together so if someone asks to help, Projects need to have an easy to follow, friendly, inclusive* on boarding process, something I feel is seriously lacking and causing potential develope [08:25] schestowitz[TR2] rs / contributors to go elsewhere. [08:25] schestowitz[TR2] * The current attacks on DEI in the USA are NOT going to help with this in the slightest, so we need to raise OUR game to counter what is going on. [08:25] schestowitz[TR2] I think there is potential for lots of online workshops using IRC, big blue button and other technologies, we have those tools available just need to make more use of them. [08:25] schestowitz[TR2] What about previous LibrePlanet speakers can we involve them and get updates on projects for example. [08:25] schestowitz[TR2] I mentioned this before, but we do have things like hardware, software and document freedom days during the year, can we have events around that. [08:25] schestowitz[TR2] We can already collaborate as we have all contributed to libreplanet and other projects in some way. [08:25] schestowitz[TR2] I have a contact who is setting up a big blue button server if that helps, just not sure when he will be able to sort it out. [12:37] schestowitz[TR2] IMHO.It has nothing to do with performance, not really. MS needs to recoup revenue as the wallet is a little light. Stacks and stacks of cash have been thrown at AI and quantum research. The cash reserves are a little light. Any company who announces a layoff usually gives you a stock bump as it shows investors you are serious about where your money goes and are constantly assessing spending trends yadayada.. [12:37] schestowitz[TR2] Let there be no doubt, the AI and quantum war against other companies is a serious race to the finish line. Microsoft has to win to stay on top, so MS feels the need to laser focus all revenue on it. Unfortunately those NOT let go have to pick up the work in light of those let go. So your upper performers now get burned out and if this is the status quo for too long, they themselves very well may leave. I mean MS peeps already put [12:37] schestowitz[TR2] in 60-80 hours per week as a norm already. How much more do you want them to work. The answer will be much more so the current performance metrics will be adjusted and workers will now be goaled on towing the company line and giving even more to pick up the slack. How far can you run as fast as you can? 100 yards? 200? a mile? whatever the answer is, you will eventually reach your limit. [12:37] schestowitz[TR2] Oh sure, theres supposedly efforts to back fill with top talent from the outside but if theres constant churn on layoffs, whos going to want to jump on board? Yeah, itll be desperate people who need a job but for how long will they stay under such conditions? Just long enough to confidently put I worked at MS on the resume and then move on to somewhere not as demanding and more stable on retention and lets face it [12:37] schestowitz[TR2] , probably more money. KDE Plasma 6.3 released and 6.3.1 is already here
    [14:47] schestowitz[TR2]
    [14:47] schestowitz[TR2]

It's all happening in KDE land. KDE Plasma 6.3 arrived early last week. A few days later on Valentine's Day, the KDE Frameworks 6.11 joined in the fun. Then, just a day ago, as we write, a minor point release of the desktop followed, Plasma 6.3.1. This was all preceded by a minor point-release to the KDE Gear applications suite. Version 24.12.2 arrived just days earlier.
