How to install and use Foxit Reader in Linux - Tutorial
[07:24] -TechBytesBot/#techbytes-www.dedoimedo.com | How to install and use Foxit Reader in Linux [07:24] schestowitz
    [07:25] schestowitz

With PDF software, Linux has a great deal of versatility. Top-notch command-line tools, for one. There's also a range of paid applications, with pretty decent quality, which I will be reviewing in the coming months. Even with the available free range, you're sort of in good hands. Okular does a reasonable job, although its editing capabilities can be better. But it's not like you'll be in a total lurch.

That said, Foxit Reader has a lot of nifty options - perhaps too many, one could say. Tabbed interface, ability to turn off Javascript (I wonder why this should ever have been included in documents, go figure), Protected Mode for viewing potentially unsafe files, okay annotation features, and you can also use signatures. Not bad. All right then, let's install it.

Use light painting to visualize magnetic fields
[07:27] -TechBytesBot/#techbytes-blog.arduino.cc | Use light painting to visualize magnetic fields | Arduino Blog [07:27] schestowitz
    [07:27] schestowitz

Light painting is a photography trick that exploits a cameras shutter. To ensure proper exposure in different lighting conditions, cameras have variable shutter speeds. If the subject is well-lit, then the shutter may only remain open for ten or so milliseconds. But if the subject is very dark, then a photographer may choose to leave the shutter open for minutes. Anything bright that moves in the frame [07:27] schestowitz will leave painted streaks. This project takes advantage of light painting to visualize magnetic fields.

    Mastodon's Eternal September begins

    [07:30] schestowitz

Well, it looks like it's finally happened. As news sites began reporting that Elon Musk had finalised his purchase of Twitter, the fediverse's Eternal September hoped for and feared in equal numbers amongst its existing user base began.

    [07:30] schestowitz

We've had waves of new people before most recently earlier this year when Musk first announced his purchase offer but what's been happening for the last week is different in both scale and nature. It's clear that a sizeable portion of Twitter's users are choosing to deplatform themselves en masse, and many have been directed to Mastodon, the most famous and populated software on the fediverse.

Everything went from bad to worse at Twitter on Thursday. Today lets talk about a truly chaotic 24 hours at the company, and the mounting fears over what it means for the service that still serves as the heartbeat of the global news cycle.

Update 18 November: Based on the majority of feedback, we will not continue the discussion or explore this topic any further, as it is rather clear that the LibreOffice community is not interested. Thanks to everyone who let us know what they think.
