[08:55] schestowitz[TR2] A: Inappropriate pressure from RMS, as well as to protest FSF's [08:55] schestowitz[TR2] decision to reappoint him to the Board. [08:55] schestowitz[TR2] Q: So if you're writing this, that means things are changing? [08:55] schestowitz[TR2] A: Nope. Still not going to maintain the official FAQ. [08:55] schestowitz[TR2] Q: So what's this email about? [08:55] schestowitz[TR2] A: I'm going to write an unofficial FAQ. If the core team [08:55] schestowitz[TR2] wants to later on bless it as an official resource, they [08:55] schestowitz[TR2] can, but as far as I'm concerned it will be 100% unofficial. [08:55] schestowitz[TR2] Q: Why now? [08:55] schestowitz[TR2] A: Because I'm sick and tired, and tired and sick, of doing [08:55] schestowitz[TR2] nothing as my country tears itself apart. I can't do much [08:55] schestowitz[TR2] but I can explain things well. Maybe that will make GnuPG [08:55] schestowitz[TR2] more useful to people who are deeply concerned about the [08:55] schestowitz[TR2] trend of Western democracies towards surveillance capitalism [08:55] schestowitz[TR2] and authoritarian rule. [08:55] schestowitz[TR2] Q: How can I help? [08:55] schestowitz[TR2] A: Let me know what questions you've always had. [08:55] schestowitz[TR2] Q: What will the format be? [08:55] schestowitz[TR2] A: HTML, PDF, and ePUB. [08:55] schestowitz[TR2] Q: Are you accepting contributions? [08:55] schestowitz[TR2] A: No. I want there to be one authorial voice. [08:55] schestowitz[TR2] Q: Good luck, man. [08:55] schestowitz[TR2] A: That's not a question, but thanks. We all need it." [09:49] schestowitz[TR2][09:49] schestowitz[TR2]On 17 December 2024, the EDPB released its long-awaited Opinion 28/2024 on certain data protection aspects related to the processing of personal data in the context of AI models. The process has highlighted some insufficiencies: an expedited timeline, limited and asymmetrical stakeholder involvement, and a problematic framing. In terms of content, this document has sparked intense de [09:49] schestowitz[TR2] bate, and it will continue to do so in the near future. The main reason for this is that, the more you reflect on it, the more it resembles a Rorschach testeveryone seems to see what they want to see.

[11:05] schestowitz[TR2][11:05] schestowitz[TR2]As EU negotiators continue trilogue discussions on the GDPR Procedural Regulation, civil society organisations across Europe are raising the alarm: the proposed reforms risk failing to address the long-standing enforcement challenges that have undermined the GDPRs effectiveness. [11:54] schestowitz[TR2][11:54] schestowitz[TR2]An Arduino Nano board controls the whole process through a custom PCB. That starts with heating the sample in a vial to release the ammonia vapor. The vapor travels via a tube through a gas diffuser into another vial containing Berthelots reagent. A magnetic stirrer beneath mixes the gas into the reagent. A 660nm (deep red) laser shines through that vial into a photo diode on the other [11:54] schestowitz[TR2] side, and the Arduino monitors that through a pre-amp.
