LibreELEC 12.0.1 Rolls Out with Kodi 21.1 Upgrade
    [13:07] schestowitz[TR2]
    [13:07] schestowitz[TR2]

LibreELEC, a purpose-built OS designed specifically for running Kodi, has launched its latest version, 12.0.1, an upgrade to its previous major 12.0 (Omega) release.

    [13:07] schestowitz[TR2]

This update is particularly crucial for users of 64-bit ARM SoC devices such as Raspberry Pi 4 and 5, which now utilize the aarch64 userspace instead of the previous arm configuration.

GParted Celebrates 20 Years of Partition Management Excellence
    [13:31] schestowitz[TR2]
    [13:31] schestowitz[TR2]

Short for GNOME Partition Editor, GParted is a free and open-source partition editor for managing disk partitions. Its graphical user interface leverages the power of GNU Parted and other disk utilities, making it easier for users to perform tasks such as creating, resizing, moving, and copying partitions without data loss.

    [13:31] schestowitz[TR2]

It is commonly included in live CD/USB distributions, allowing users to manage partitions outside a live operating system environment.

Torvalds Expresses Regret Over Merging Bcachefs into Kernel
    [13:32] schestowitz[TR2]
    [13:32] schestowitz[TR2]

Torvalds responded skeptically, suggesting that broader adoption and testing across major Linux distros would be necessary to validate such claims.

    [13:32] schestowitz[TR2]

He emphasized that the changes proposed by Overstreet were not merely fixes but substantial new developments that also altered non-bcachefs files. This, according to Torvalds, was a step too far from the intended quick fixes that are typical after a new kernel release.

COSMIC Alpha Released! Heres what people are saying.
    [13:34] schestowitz[TR2]
    [13:34] schestowitz[TR2]

Its happening! This is not a drill! The alpha version of COSMIC, our new desktop environment for Pop!_OS and other Linux distros, has been released. COSMIC adds new features, customization, performance, stability, and security. Its alpha state adds bugs. Bug reports are welcome, as are screenshots of your custom themes and panels.

    [13:34] schestowitz[TR2]

To make sure people are as excited about COSMIC as we are, it was essential to give it the best impression we could. Even for an alpha, most features required for daily use needed to feel polished. However, youre bound to come across some breaking bugs before the official release, so we advise you hold off on using COSMIC for production use for now.

    [13:34] schestowitz[TR2]

    Heres how to try it.

    FrOScon 2024
    [13:40] schestowitz[TR2]
    [13:40] schestowitz[TR2]

This year, I attended FrOScon for the first time . FrOScon is the biggest conference about free and open-source software in Germany. It takes place every year in Bonn/Siegburg (Germany) at the weekend and is free to attend.

    [13:40] schestowitz[TR2]

For the first time, I was not at a conference to staff a KDE stand. My employer had a stand there, and it was a great occasion for me to meet some colleagues, fellow KDE, and Matrix contributors.

Things have a way of catching up with ya. Just look at what happened at those nice folks at Enron or "Chainsaw Al" at Sunbeam. Plenty more examples like that all over Wall Street. That's what's going to ki-l IBM long term. You can't /just/ live on legacy sales - but you /can/ look like a business genius for increasing profit year-on-year by cutting your development orgs unsustainably - and then naffing off with a golden parachute before things go bad... not that I'm suggesting AK would do that, naturally. I know they've got a... complicated... political climate, but the engineers weren't bad - and we were generally able to keep them together more than our India team (who, because of the apparently low salaries IBM paid, often would end up rotating out to other companies once they got their minimum term served). [14:40] schestowitz[TR2] It's always frustrating training someone across international timezones and language barriers, for them to leave 3 months later. The India team had some really bright people in it too - just they never stuck around. [14:40] schestowitz[TR2] " [14:41] schestowitz[TR2] " sure, why not if you have time to ki-l ? LOL.
