Historically, the US has been liberal on the WD issue but seems now to be tightening up (although not yet as far as the EPO "Gold Standard" of "clear and unambiguously derivable" (let's call i [00:07] schestowitz t cud). Me, I think it inevitable for all FtF jurisdictions assymptotically to approach the EPO's cud standard, if only because the courts are ever-increasingly called upon to do justice between rival Applicants fighting high value priority contests. The monumentally costly priority contest in CRISPR-cas9 technology might be a case in point.

It is my feeling, that not just the courts in England but also patent monopoly pract [00:07] schestowitz itioners in the USA are increasingly accustoming themselves to, and ruefully accepting, a strict cud standard imposed on all their post-filing prosecution amendments, but that it takes at least one full patent monopoly term for such sea-changes to become part of the consciousness of patent monopoly litigators." Read quoted-printable emails with qprint

    [05:43] schestowitz

    You may already have encountered emails in raw text that contained weird characters sequences like =E3 or =09, especially if you work with patch files embedded as text in emails.

    [05:43] schestowitz

    There is nothing wrong with the text itself, or the sender email client. In fact, this shows the email client is doing the right thing by applying the RFC 1521. Non-ASCII character should be escaped in some way in emails.

    The main differences between OpenBSD, FreeBSD, NetBSD and DragonFly BSD

    Even though all the four BSDs share a common ancestry with the Berkeley Software Distribution (BSD), and even though all the BSDs can serve as a multi-purpose operating system, they are independent projects and they are very different.

    [05:45] schestowitz

    None of the BSDs are distributions, they are all complete operating systems.

    16:10 was amazing. You could have two full sized A4 documents in view at a comfortable size, and the added vertical space meant your eyes spent less time darting from side-to-side. 4:3 was great for writing code and prose without distractions. 16:9, sadly, is neither.

    @Patent Robot

    It is politically unthinkable that English will ever become the only official language of the EPO or the UPC. As the UK has left (?) the UPCA (has no exit clause), it is more than wis/hful thinking to have English as sole official language of the UPC.
    You also seem to forget that a patent monopoly with unitary effect is a patent monopoly granted b [21:54] schestowitz y the EPO in one of its three official languages.
    There are numerous Rules of Procedure of the UPC in which the language of proceedings before the UPC can be the language in which the patent monopoly has been granted.
    In any action before the central division, the language of proceedings will be the language in which the patent monopoly has been granted.
    That English is a language mastered by most of the people [21:54] schestowitz dealing with patents in Europe is not in dispute, but only using English as official language is a no-go.
    During an oral hearing before a local or regional chamber of the UPC, the panel can even decide to hold the hearing in the local official language. Amendments to the patent monopoly do then not only have to be filed in the language in which the patent monopoly was granted, but also in the local language.
    " [21:55] schestowitz "I understand that the UPC cannot be amended now but 12 years ago English could (and in my opinion should) have become the only language of the proceedings of the UPC and of the unitary patent, as proposed by several users and member states.

    The EPO is not a branch of the UPC so the UPC is not obliged to use the three official languages of the EPO." ● Oct 31 [22:05] *psydroid2 has quit (Quit: KVIrc 5.0.0 Aria http://www.kvirc.net/) [22:14] *jacobk has quit (Ping timeout: 2m30s) [22:21] *jacobk (~quassel@99ed6ukzxymmc.irc) has joined #techbytes [22:25] *jacobk has quit (Ping timeout: 2m30s) ● Oct 31 [23:10] *psydruid has quit (Ping timeout: 2m30s)
