DaemonFC[m]Unfortunately, the series never got a wrap up, so you don't find out what happens after they time travel into the future war.Aug 08 01:21
DaemonFC[m]It's hard to say whether anything introduced by a particular timeline is canon or not when dealing with time travel.Aug 08 01:22
DaemonFC[m]The episode that they're talking about (along with another one) at the beginning reveals that every Terminator CPU chip is hardcoded to kill John Connor if it finds him, even if it means aborting its mission.Aug 08 01:23
DaemonFC[m]When one gets reprogrammed to protect him, the chip code wants to do it, but the operating software cancels the order out each time it's given. Aug 08 01:24
DaemonFC[m]The T-888s are more capable of independent thought than earlier models. In one case, Cromartie destroyed a T-888 sent by Skynet to kill Agent Ellison and replace him, because he thought that the real Ellison would be an asset in locating John Connor. Aug 08 01:26
*mmu_man has quit (Ping timeout: 256 seconds)Aug 08 01:28
DaemonFC[m]MinceR: The Cromartie model was probably my favorite. It had a sense of humor. Also, that scene where the FBI Swat team came in after him and he killed all of them and threw them out into the hotel pool, but spared Ellison. (Who had to go explain to his boss how one man killed a dozen Hostage Rescue Team agents in full body armor with MP5s, and was fired.)Aug 08 01:29
DaemonFC[m]I think they probably should have given up on Dark Fate when they realized they were doing Terminator 2 all over again.Aug 08 01:31
DaemonFC[m]I expected more from James Cameron.Aug 08 01:31
DaemonFC[m]Eh, I went to see it because I figured maybe it was like the Alien universe that had two good movies and that was the end of that. I figured James Cameron coming back might mean it was better. Aug 08 01:32
DaemonFC[m]Alien was excellent for horror (especially considering that it was late 70s and everything before that had just been a total shit show that definitely didn't age well).Aug 08 01:33
DaemonFC[m]Aliens was excellent as a Sci Fi Action movie that just kept going too fast to get boring. So that was the way Terminator and T2 went. Aug 08 01:34

MinceRi didn't watch aliens for the sake of alien3Aug 08 01:38
DaemonFC[m]Well, Resurrection wasn't a reboot.Aug 08 01:38
DaemonFC[m]So to know why they resurrected Ripley and how they got her DNA with an Alien queen in it,you have to know what happens in 3. Aug 08 01:38
DaemonFC[m]Some of the video games have had a better plot than Alien 3 or Resurrection.Aug 08 01:39
MinceRso don't watch aliens for alien3's sakeAug 08 01:40
MinceRwatch aliens for aliens's sake and alien3 for alien4's sake :>Aug 08 01:40
DaemonFC[m]If you consider those canon, then you find out that some of the non-queen xenomorphs can turn into a queen and start laying eggs if there's nothing around to lay eggs. Aug 08 01:40
DaemonFC[m]So Ripley wasn't wrong. If even one gets to Earth, it's all over. Aug 08 01:41
DaemonFC[m]They're a biological weapon.Aug 08 01:41

Brother "Dick" (Arthur) Watson had dropped out of Yale as a Major in Ordnance. Tom Jr. became a Lieutenant Colonel flying military commanders. Tom Jr. later admitted to journalists that the one career he would have liked to follow was an airline pilot. Piloting Aug 08 15:35

Toward the end of his service, Watson worked for Major General Follett Bradley, who suggested that he should try to follow his father at IBM. schestowitz Air Force Chief of Staff Gen. Norton A. Schwartz declared 2009 to 2010 as the Year of the Air Force Family. He knew, as leaders before him realized, that without the care and genuine concern for not only Airmen, but for those family members who support their Airmen, mission effectiveness could be compromised.Aug 08 15:41
schestowitzTom Watson Jr. learned this lesson well during his days as a B-24 Liberator pilot in the Army Air Forces during World War II. He learned to fly at the age of ten and like all Airmen, he embraced this opportunity. He didn't stand out in college. He didn't really want to follow in his famous father's footsteps into IBM. Instead, he joined the National Guard as a pilot and eventually was promoted to captain.Aug 08 15:41
schestowitzIn 1940, his unit was mobilized and Captain Watson found himself patrolling the California coast looking for a possible submarine attack on the days following Pearl Harbor. Wanting more action, he found himself assigned as a pilot and aide-de-camp to Maj. Gen. Follett Bradley, then the Army's inspector general.Aug 08 15:41
schestowitzGeneral Bradley was assigned the task of establishing an Alaska-Siberia ferry route to deliver planes and equipment to the Soviets. This mission required Captain Watson to fly the general into many airfields not used to servicing a B-24 and to work out the detailed enroute logistics and servicing needs of the air armada that soon would follow to allow the Soviets to hold out against the invading Germany army.Aug 08 15:41
schestowitzGeneral Bradley soon was dismayed over the inability of his airplane to be ready when he needed it at a moments notice. Asking Captain Watson about this, the captain replied that it was the crew's fault as they didn't seemed to be as focused on the mission.Aug 08 15:41
schestowitzGeneral Bradley then ordered Captain Watson to take several days off with his aircrew and the ground support crew. He was to spend all this time with them, to take them to dinner, to learn their first names, the names of their families, what schools they attended and what sports they liked. Only then was Captain Watson to tell them of their mission and its importance.Aug 08 15:41
schestowitzWhen Captain Watson reported these details back to General Bradley, he commented on what great people these Airmen were. Captain Watson reported more than the details. He had learned of their passions and desires and what it took to get the mission done right the first time.Aug 08 15:41
schestowitzThat plane never again missed a take off, and the enroute structure General Bradley put in place through remote Siberia was done in time to help the Soviets defeat Hitler's aggression in Russia and ultimately lead to the Allied victory.Aug 08 15:41
schestowitzAs Tom Watson, by now a lieutenant colonel, was leaving the Army, General Bradley asked what his post-war intentions were. Colonel Watson replied that he would like to join Eddie Rickenbacker and support the fledging idea to form Eastern Airlines into a commercial opportunity. General Bradley suggested that Colonel Watson apply what he had learned about taking care of people and go back to IBM. Tom Watson did this and went on to Aug 08 15:41
schestowitzachieve tremendous success as the head of IBM.Aug 08 15:41
schestowitzDuring this post-war time, Tom Watson never lost sight of those who served, and along with Eddie Rickenbacker, he responded to General Eisenhower's request and formed the Air Force Aid Society to support those Airman and their families who deserved the recognition and support that such a organization would provide.Aug 08 15:41
schestowitzTom Watson remained on the Air Force Aid Society's board of directors for more than 24 years. He never lost sight of the clear lesson that his wartime leadership experience taught him: if you take care and recognize people who are responsible for mission success, the mission will be successful.Aug 08 15:41
schestowitzTom Watson applied this though out his life, honoring those who served in the Air Force and in the leadership he demonstrated in IBM.Aug 08 15:41
schestowitzHe has been recognized as one of the 100 most influential people of the 20th century. During this 100th year of IBM, it is fitting to pause and to celebrate what Tom Watson learned as a pilot and how it changed his life and the lives of many forever.Aug 08 15:41

He embarrassed his father, a member of the school board, by putting skunk odor in the school's ventilating system, forcing the school to close for the day. DaemonFC[m]I read on. The cops asked him why it was breaking down all the time. He said it didn't run when it was out of gasoline. So this time, he went and got some gasoline and poured it on the KIA and set it on fire.Aug 08 18:38

DaemonFC[m]So Kilmer said let me get in the car with you and see what's going on. The guy had both feet on the pedals and insisted that this was the "proper" way to drive a car.Aug 08 18:50
DaemonFC[m]So the brakes were constantly dragging and he was going through them 4-5 times as often as he should.Aug 08 18:50
DaemonFC[m]Then when Kilmer pointed that out, the customer said he'd just find a different mechanic.Aug 08 18:50
DaemonFC[m]He had another customer who bought one that was 4 years old with 60,000 miles on it for 20% of its original price.Aug 08 18:51
DaemonFC[m]The first customer had spent $13,000 in repairs to make it keep going that long, and a lot of it was replacing run flat tires and a rim each time he hit a bad pothole.Aug 08 18:52
DaemonFC[m]The United States doesn't take good care of its roads, so those are all over the place and every once in a while you don't see one.Aug 08 18:52
DaemonFC[m]Normal tires are a lot more forgiving of that because they provide cushioning to the rims, bearings, and tie rods. Aug 08 18:53
DaemonFC[m]MinceR: The Germans don't really seem to appreciate how bad the driving conditions can be in parts of the US.Aug 08 18:54

MinceRyeah, probably those Mercedes-Benz buses the public transit companies of budapest bought would run better on german roads with their wooden toy car "suspensions"Aug 08 18:56
DaemonFC[m]Then there was the woman who had a leaking head gasket and decided "I'm not going to pay $2,700 to fix that on a 2000 BMW!".Aug 08 18:56
MinceRhere, you can feel every individual flaw in the pavement in themAug 08 18:56
DaemonFC[m]So she poured Steel Seal in it. Not a bad plan really if it's an old beater and you have a 50/50 chance that the leak is so small it'll plug it and it won't be a problem again.Aug 08 18:56
DaemonFC[m]She didn't follow the directions though. She just poured it into her radiator and drove around with it until the engine blew up and took out the radiator with it. Aug 08 18:57
DaemonFC[m]The worst thing that usually happens with Steel Seal if you follow the directions is that it just doesn't work and the leak comes right back and you definitely need a new gasket. Aug 08 18:58
DaemonFC[m]<MinceR "yeah, probably those Mercedes-Be"> According to Kilmer, everything on a BMW is junk. The last thing they made properly was a very reliable transmission that they discontinued in 2014.Aug 08 18:59

DaemonFC[m]MinceR: It's not that they _can't_ design a good car. It's that if they did they couldn't bilk you at the stealership every few thousand miles and sell you a new car every 5 years.Aug 08 19:20
DaemonFC[m]They just build them a cheaply as they can. They intentionally put parts that will last a given number of cycles of heating up and cooling down before they crack. Things like that.Aug 08 19:20
DaemonFC[m]The real reason they got rid of cast iron and cast aluminum in critical engine areas and replaced it with aluminum and plastic is because that doesn't last as long and it's cheaper for them to build.Aug 08 19:22
DaemonFC[m]They pass it along to you by doubling the price vs what a good car used to cost.Aug 08 19:22
DaemonFC[m]They used to design computer equipment to be very durable too.Aug 08 19:22

DaemonFC[m]It's gotten so bad that whenever our central bank rattles off figures for the economy and gets to "durable goods" I put "durable" in quotation fingers.Aug 08 19:23
DaemonFC[m]There's a lot of difference in what "durable" actually means vs. what it did in even 1990-1995.Aug 08 19:24
DaemonFC[m]In 1995, you buy a refrigerator for your kitchen, and 90% of the ones they sold probably still work today.Aug 08 19:24
DaemonFC[m]But your electric utility will "buy that old energy hog from you" for the princely sum of $50 off your next electric bill so you can get a "modern refrigerator that's up to 25% more efficient".Aug 08 19:25
DaemonFC[m]Except that if you take them up on that, you'll lose a 1995 model that may work for 20 years to come, and gain a new one that probably won't make it 10 years.Aug 08 19:26

DaemonFC[m](Like, 1940s prices.)Aug 08 19:33
DaemonFC[m]The more people there are bidding everything up, the shittier your life will be because prices get bid up and wages are bid down, because if you won't buy it or you won't work there, there's millions of other people where you came from.Aug 08 19:34
DaemonFC[m]If people would stop fucking so much and just let the population go down, we'd all be much better off, and it's not just climate change.Aug 08 19:34
DaemonFC[m]That's why Capitalism subsidizes irresponsible "procreation". With a mass "reserve army of unemployed workers", people become commodities, and if you get a labor dispute, they just toss you like a broken part and 300 scabs come in and there's no problem for them.Aug 08 19:36
DaemonFC[m]The subsidies on having children get cut when the reserve army of the unemployed grows large enough. Which is why the federal government ended cash welfare in 1996 and why Trump cut the child tax credits in half.Aug 08 19:37

DaemonFC[m]Republicans, which no jack shit about jack shit, expected a baby boom from the COVID lockdowns, but the fact is that even CDC says a million babies that would have been born will not be born over the next 3 years because people are scrambling to protect what little they have left after Trump and the other pestilence.Aug 08 19:39

DaemonFC[m]So, here's the rub. Christians say that condoms are bad because in some alternate timeline had you not used one, there would have been a soul that attached to the fetus. So using this causality=murder condom logic, does that mean if we had a real president who took action to limit the Coronavirus pandemic to be 10% as bad as it is (which is how bad it had to be, probably), that Trump wouldn't have murdered 900,000Aug 08 19:42
DaemonFC[m]potential babies and 500,000 Americans?Aug 08 19:42

DaemonFC[m]The contracts that Trump doles out are sometimes to his friends who have been personally indicted or their business has been indicted on up to 46 felony charges that haven't even been resolved yet.Aug 08 19:45

DaemonFC[m]MinceR: I read a news article that says some people want to volunteer to be infected with COVID-19 so that they can help research progress on it, but they can't because it wouldn't be ethical.Aug 08 19:49
DaemonFC[m]Trump slaughtered 400,000 Americans that didn't have to die by the time this is over and prevented a million births so he could go golfing and pretend we didn't have a problem for 13 more days.Aug 08 19:49
DaemonFC[m]Was that ethical? :)Aug 08 19:49
DaemonFC[m]There's this thing called the Church of Euthanasia that says "Save the planet. Kill yourself.".Aug 08 19:51
DaemonFC[m]They probably love Trump.Aug 08 19:52
DaemonFC[m]The problem here is that without strict population controls, 1 million fewer births over 3 years and half a million dead from the virus in the US does very little to help the environment, wrecks the economy, and causes unnecessary pain and suffering.Aug 08 19:52
DaemonFC[m]In fact, I read something once that showed that a virus could kill 99% of people. It would be devastating. It would set us back thousands of years, but in 10,000 years there'd just be 8 billion people on the planet again and the problems would be back full speed ahead.Aug 08 19:53

Humans just multiply and multiply uncontrollably, until all resources are destroyed, and then they move somewhere else. Like a disease that destroys the host.Aug 08 19:56
DaemonFC[m]Humans are a virus with legs. They're just smart enough to be dangerous. There is no other invasive pest on Earth that will eventually wipe out all life on the planet. We will. It's coming. Hundreds of years, at best.Aug 08 19:57
