[01:13] DaemonFC[m] That could be a function of the fact that they're vastly exaggerating how much vaccine is being produced (won't cite numbers, just talk about vaccines as if you could walk down to the CVS and get one now, even though you can't). [01:14] DaemonFC[m] The fact that nobody is talking facts and figures here tells you that they're only trying to avoid panic and that the situation is worse than they will speak of. [01:15] DaemonFC[m] I'm hoping that the federal government doesn't just stay the course of dishonesty and keeping the public in the dark, but it doesn't look good. [01:16] DaemonFC[m] Joe Biden backed Trump up about how there's "nothing wrong with the process" that led to these "vaccines". [01:16] DaemonFC[m] He has to, right? It's easy politics. [02:03] DaemonFC[m] Because there's a multiplier effect and it will ultimately lead to more people dying in the end. [02:03] DaemonFC[m] If they doesn't get the vaccine. [02:03] DaemonFC[m] Giving it to some shut in who is 90 years old is frankly a wasted dose when you could give it to a frontline worker. [02:05] *gry (~test@unaffiliated/gryllida) has joined #techrights [02:05] DaemonFC[m] Also, it will wear off faster even if you can somehow argue that the 90 year old shut in isn't a wasted dose. [02:06] DaemonFC[m] Their immune system isn't great and if immunity was going to last a few years in a younger person, it might be gone in several months in someone very old. [02:06] DaemonFC[m] This is yet another example of a limited public resource going to people who vote more consistently. [02:08] DaemonFC[m] It's sort of like Social Security giving money to people who don't need it while the government lets other people become unemployed and homeless with no money at all. It's a political decision. Not resources allocated to where they ought to go. [02:09] DaemonFC[m] When Social Security was new, old people lived about 4-5 years on the program, on average. [02:09] DaemonFC[m] They weren't a generation who usually had a huge war chest built up for retirement and lived for 30 years getting a Social Security check as well. [02:10] DaemonFC[m] Now the tables have turned, and, for the most part, the elderly have more savings and income than any other group, and need the help less. [02:10] DaemonFC[m] But the politicians have gotten them used to getting a bunch of stuff, so good luck with that. [02:11] DaemonFC[m] So now they get all the vaccine doses too, even though COVID would cut their lives short by a year or two and they're far less likely to get it, as you mentioned, and far less likely to spread it to dozens or hundreds of other people. [02:15] DaemonFC[m] By allocating the doses differently, we could break chains of infection that lead to all these deaths. [13:17] CrystalMath lots of Trump supporters are waking up to this now [13:18] CrystalMath it's a good chance to get a lot of them on our side [13:19] schestowitz__ they woke up too late [13:19] schestowitz__ so-called 'woke' [13:19] schestowitz__ and us "Sheeple" [13:19] CrystalMath i see a golden opportunity for software freedom [13:19] schestowitz__ yes, indeed [13:19] CrystalMath it's never too late [13:19] schestowitz__ but I won't be there to invite them [13:19] CrystalMath are you going away? [13:19] schestowitz__ they already hop onto some stuff like mastodon [13:19] schestowitz__ which isn't free speech [13:19] schestowitz__ and gab is being isolated out of fediverse [13:20] vZS1_2 Federated =/= P2P [13:20] techrights-ipfs IPFS downstream, 60 minutes: IPFS upstream, 60 minutes: [13:20] schestowitz__ CrystalMath: not going away [13:20] schestowitz__ I just won't waste time inviting them [13:20] schestowitz__ many who are deplotformed by Twitter aren't worth competing for [13:20] schestowitz__ it's like wrestling to attract people who got banned from pub [13:21] schestowitz__ for vomiting, fighting, shouting [13:21] schestowitz__ you might say "business opportunity.." if you want a BLACKLIST as a customerbase [13:21] schestowitz__ Parler tried [13:21] schestowitz__ Gab tried [13:21] schestowitz__ and look what they turned into [13:21] schestowitz__ http://schestowitz.com/Weblog/archives/2018/11/06/gab-is-pro-nazis/ [13:21] -TechrightsBot-tr/#techrights-schestowitz.com Blog Archive Gab is Not a Site That Tolerates Nazis. [13:41] schestowitz__ cultural differences aren't respected, and this is then spun as tolerance and diversity [13:42] schestowitz__ "if you don't agree with my culture, you're ban" <- new definition of tolerance [13:42] schestowitz__ diversity = I ban everybody who does not agree with me [13:42] CrystalMath my opinion is that marriage needs to be abolished [13:43] CrystalMath which i guess is considered far-left [13:44] schestowitz__ why left? [13:44] CrystalMath well it has been a historically far left opinion, by people such as Rosa Luxembourg [13:44] schestowitz__ I have a friend divorced twice who thinks the same as you [13:44] schestowitz__ but it's hard to date woman when you adopt such a view [13:45] CrystalMath well, by anti-marriage i mean, replacing marriage with the concept of free love [13:46] schestowitz__ that introduces issues with kids' upbringing [13:46] schestowitz__ nature has couplehood [13:46] schestowitz__ many animals are monogamous [13:46] schestowitz__ not all [13:46] schestowitz__ but a lot, it helps raise a set of offspring [13:49] vZS1_2 I'm migrating all my systems to Gentoo, before I proceed with any more work on the TR stuff, btw. [13:49] schestowitz__ good [13:49] vZS1_2 So I'm probably going to be MIA for about 2-3 weeks. [13:50] schestowitz__ today I saw a release of... [13:50] schestowitz__ [07:42] #gentoo #gnu #linux -based #CloudReady 87.3.28 is out https://www.neverware.com/ #neverware needs to fix its bloated, non-standards-based site [13:50] -TechrightsBot-tr/#techrights-Neverware [13:50] schestowitz__ chromeos is also gentoo-based [13:50] schestowitz__ founder of gentoo worked for Micrososoft [13:50] vZS1_2 I'm washing my hands away from Debian after almost a decade of running it on my systems. [13:50] schestowitz__ be sure you put all your eggs in the right basket when you migrate to it [13:51] schestowitz__ each project has its own issue, licensing- community- and freedom-related [13:51] CrystalMath vZS1_2: i'm going from debian to slackware [13:52] schestowitz__ slackware is good [13:52] schestowitz__ patrick is VERY genuine [13:52] schestowitz__ and eric and others [13:52] schestowitz__ they're slackers who don't suck corporate schtick [13:52] schestowitz__ eric left IBM or was laid off [13:52] schestowitz__ unlike canonical, they don't go for money and "clown" [13:53] schestowitz__ would rather maintain modest market share and principles [13:53] schestowitz__ not "world domination" (money) [13:53] vZS1_2 Debian has stopped prioritising innovation. It's all politics and propaganda now. [13:54] schestowitz__ Tiger COmputing [13:54] schestowitz__ did you see the article? [13:54] vZS1_2 I did [13:54] schestowitz__ If I can ask for a favour, find out more about tjem [13:54] schestowitz__ this is their DAM [13:54] schestowitz__ working via CESG [13:54] schestowitz__ so they get to decide who to expel [13:55] vZS1_2 I'll ask around. Will let you know if I come across anything. [13:55] schestowitz__ I did not look deep at all [13:56] schestowitz__ did not even check their connections, if any, to army, mod, and gchq [13:56] schestowitz__ just put in "cesg" in search [13:56] schestowitz__ they're near gchq's.... hq [13:57] vZS1_2 The most laborious part of the OS migration is going to be automating ISO generation. I have a few systems that I run in an "immutable" fashion. [13:57] vZS1_2 Debian made this quite streamlined. [13:57] schestowitz__ wAIT [13:58] schestowitz__ figosdev did that already [13:58] schestowitz__ remastering ISOs [13:58] schestowitz__ he made tools for it [13:58] vZS1_2 I don't use third-party anything for this stuff. [13:59] vZS1_2 The Gentoo documentation is very good. It's just a matter of studying through it now. ● Jan 13 [14:00] schestowitz__ https://sysdfree.wordpress.com/2018/04/10/192/ [14:00] -TechrightsBot-tr/#techrights-sysdfree.wordpress.com | Distro-libre (by FigOSdev) | systemd-free linux community [14:00] CrystalMath hmm, what would you say is debian politicizing? [14:00] CrystalMath systemd? [14:00] CrystalMath i mean, i know that there are corporate fascists in debian [14:01] CrystalMath including some that claim that free speech is dangerous [14:01] CrystalMath but lots of distros are worse [14:02] schestowitz__ gnome is no better [14:02] schestowitz__ iirc, gentoo doesn't pick a fav DE [14:02] schestowitz__ but many use kde [14:02] CrystalMath oh gosh, gnome is awful [14:02] schestowitz__ gentoo has decent gnome bundles too for compilation [14:02] vZS1_2 I don't use a DE [14:02] schestowitz__ gnome is all poltitics [14:02] vZS1_2 I use AwesomeWM [14:02] CrystalMath you know they said they never delete emails [14:02] schestowitz__ and it's controlled by IBM mostly [14:03] CrystalMath on their mailing list [14:03] schestowitz__ who? [14:03] schestowitz__ gentoo [14:03] CrystalMath gnome [14:03] schestowitz__ debian has a secret mailing list [14:03] CrystalMath gnome says they never remove emails [14:03] schestowitz__ gnome did not delete a mail I'm aware of [14:03] schestowitz__ fsf did [14:03] schestowitz__ or libreplanet [14:03] schestowitz__ debian does it a lot [14:03] CrystalMath gnome deleted my email [14:03] schestowitz__ e.g. mails from daniel pocock [14:03] schestowitz__ gnome isn't crefibility [14:04] schestowitz__ it's IBM [14:04] schestowitz__ the biggest liars [14:04] schestowitz__ maybe bigger than Microsoft [14:04] schestowitz__ you never get fired for buying IBM [14:04] CrystalMath Jake Parsons wrote an angry email regarding the ousting of RMS [14:04] schestowitz__ and if you do [14:04] schestowitz__ we'll delete the evidence of it :-) [14:04] CrystalMath and gnome's horrible statement in support of that [14:04] schestowitz__ gnome is still at it [14:05] CrystalMath so then this complete retard, i think the name was Luis Villa, wrote some complete crap [14:05] CrystalMath and i replied to that [14:05] CrystalMath that entire thread was deleted from their archive [14:05] schestowitz__ last night: http://techrights.org/2021/01/12/gnome-foundation-rms/ [14:05] -TechrightsBot-tr/#techrights-techrights.org | GNOME Foundation is Still Participating in the Attack on Richard Stallman | Techrights [14:05] schestowitz__ Luis Villa is a corporate [14:05] schestowitz__ see where he is now [14:05] schestowitz__ where he was [14:06] schestowitz__ and who he associates with [14:06] schestowitz__ so-called lawyers/hackers [14:06] schestowitz__ Mac Asay is close to him [14:06] Ariadne anyway [14:06] schestowitz__ they are too important to "debate" [14:06] Ariadne i am setting up email shit if you want to use it schestowitz__ [14:06] schestowitz__ if you disagree, you are "toxic" [14:06] schestowitz__ and then they can delete anything you say [14:06] Ariadne my email provider jacked up their rates to almost double what i was paying [14:06] schestowitz__ because it's bad for "sponsors" [14:07] Ariadne so at this point it is outside of what i'm willing to pay for email hosting [14:07] Ariadne lol [14:07] schestowitz__ :-) [14:07] schestowitz__ email for the IPblock? [14:07] CrystalMath Oliva stepped down from the FSF? [14:10] Ariadne oh [14:10] Ariadne you might want to check your SPF records [14:10] vZS1_2 There's a fleet of WordPress comment bots all over the net [14:10] schestowitz__ I could never get it to work and gave up, no config changes were made and prior to it in the old host we could not get through to gmail, then not to gmx either [14:11] schestowitz__ tuxmachines signups are even worse because when opened up we get endless apam [14:11] schestowitz__ same for wiki in techrights [14:11] schestowitz__ like 50 spams per day [14:12] schestowitz__ sometimes overrunning the site to the point where the more practical solution is to restore from the nightly backup and set new users to blocked [14:13] schestowitz__ sometimes spam can come at numbers like thousands and the GUI is not enough [14:13] schestowitz__ or mysql queries [14:13] schestowitz__ so it becomes like a security issue or data compromise [14:13] schestowitz__ they pollute the DB with crap [14:13] schestowitz__ to the point the data in the DB is crap [14:13] schestowitz__ and to fix it you need to restore from a recent backup [14:13] schestowitz__ not a security issue, but a PITA [14:14] schestowitz__ so if the intent is to cause data loss by obscuring the legit data with spam, that can work [14:14] schestowitz__ distributed denial of data :-) [14:14] schestowitz__ DDD [14:15] vZS1_2 DB pollution can be considered a security issue [14:15] vZS1_2 Depends how broad your definition of "security" is. [14:16] vZS1_2 One of the first things I do with my clients is settle on a definition of "security". Saves misunderstandings, down the line. [14:17] vZS1_2 I avoid saying security and say security policy instead. It's more practical and gets them thinking the right way. [14:18] vZS1_2 Then you can just say X, Y, Z in or out of the policy.
