[00:37]	IsambardPrince	They said they took out PART of what she owed by stopping her check last year.
[00:37]	IsambardPrince	But she still owes them because she kept working.
[00:37]	IsambardPrince	They adjusted her check upwards by crediting the time she was still employed, then said they'd deduct about the same amount for 4 years until it's repaid.
[00:38]	IsambardPrince	I told her not to worry about it, but to please realize she is on a fixed income, don't view these unemployment checks as a windfall to spend on Amazon, pay off her damned credit cards and don't use them again if she can't behave herself.
[00:39]	IsambardPrince	And that I would try to get her a tax credit at least for the next few tax years.
[00:39]	IsambardPrince	Since it's a repayment of benefits they paid her, which were taxable in the years paid, she can take a credit against her tax bill even if she doesn't itemize as long as they take over $3,000 in that tax year.
[00:40]	IsambardPrince	They claim she owes them over $12,600 so for the next 4 tax years, I can just take a tax credit and at least she won't owe any income tax to the IRS.
[00:40]	IsambardPrince	What a mess.
[00:41]	IsambardPrince	She's slowly got the gears turning and realized that she has a son that at least knows how to do tax accounting for her.
[00:41]	IsambardPrince	And I think we've made some progress in getting her to start cleaning up this pile of debt and realizing that fixed income means when it's gone it's gone, until next month.
[00:42]	IsambardPrince	The first two years she turned over her taxes to me were the first two years the IRS hasn't sent her any nasty letters since I don't even know when.
[00:42]	IsambardPrince	Before she was married to Brian I think.
[00:43]	IsambardPrince	We can't win on the Social Security front, but I can at least smooth things out with the IRS she she doesn't owe taxes for a while.
[00:45]	IsambardPrince	The government is always there to make a bigger mess for you.
