[00:13]	IsambardPrince	Loading up a company with debt is sort of forcing it to make a leveraged buyout of its own shares which are not really worth the price it pays for them. It makes the remaining shares more expensive, and increases bonuses tied to share price.
[00:14]	IsambardPrince	A similar example would be the US government having a hard time finding people to buy Treasuries, so it loads the central bank up on them.
[00:14]	IsambardPrince	Then technically there are buyers and the interest rate is lower.
[00:15]	IsambardPrince	But those Treasuries that are parked create, essentially, new money, for the government to spend into the economy, without any GDP growth other than possibly the economic activity that is directly caused by inflating the money supply.
[00:15]	IsambardPrince	And often by the time governments resort to this, their population is bankrupt and can't spend so it is not stimulative.
[00:16]	IsambardPrince	It just lets the government say the GDP isn't technically falling s badly as it is.

[02:14]	IsambardPrince	I'm on level billing for my electric because we're not broke enough to get LIHEAP. They're so stingy with LIHEAP I kind of want to know who is getting it. Maybe some people on SSI or something.
[02:14]	IsambardPrince	Anyway, the damn electric company raised our bill 30%. They have this neat trick where they hardly ever raise the rate of electricity but your bill keeps getting bigger. They add lines to the bill for all these bill cramming mystery fees.
[02:14]	IsambardPrince	There's like 16 lines or something and it all adds to the bill depending on how much electricity you use, and it's not always clear what you're even being billed for. Sometimes they blame energy efficiency programs or carbon emissions reduction laws or something. They've been going around installing voltage optimization hardware in more substations, which can get the wasted electricity on the transmission line down by up to 17%, 
[02:14]	IsambardPrince	which saves them more than it costs, but then they turn around and raise your goddamned electric bill again.
[02:14]	IsambardPrince	When we moved in here in 2020, our electric bill averaged about $61 a month and today it's averaging $83. That may not sound like a lot, but over the course of the year, that's another $264 for the same amount we used all along.
[02:14]	IsambardPrince	On top of this shit, we have to figure out where another $3,600 in rent increases is coming from. And another $2400 in grocery bills for the same amount of food. Not only that, but my car insurance rate has gone up. Not as horrific as some people's, but $200 more a year even though they say they're giving me more discounts than ever before!
[02:14]	IsambardPrince	Over the last 4 years, our fixed living expenses have gone up over $6500, while our take home income has stayed almost flat.
[02:14]	IsambardPrince	Part of the reason we've been okay is because interest rates are high, we have no debt, and we have enough bank savings to add maybe $150 a month in interest income, coming into the house. But the Fed is cutting rates now, which is good news for people with debt, bad news for us.
[02:15]	IsambardPrince	I seriously doubt that solar is ever going to be big enough to replace base load. It's not just generating energy, it's what do you run at night time, or on a cloudy day, or in winter. Where I live, it gets very dark in winter time, and the sun is usually down by 4 PM or so thanks to the government (daylight savings time). So those solar panels are obviously not operating at full where I am most of the time, and at night they aren't 
[02:15]	IsambardPrince	generating anything at all. They claim that you can store the energy with grid scale batteries, but that is a cost.
[02:15]	IsambardPrince	The truth is that this is sort of a supplemental power source at best. Luckily daytime when they're working is when more electricity is being used, so they help replace peakers, which are the filthiest plants, but they are not base load.
[02:15]	IsambardPrince	Certainly nobody is helping us with our expenses. I joke that American Express is helping me more with the groceries than the government that taxes us and otherwise doesn't want to hear anything, and if we complain too loudly about things getting bad out there, maybe they'll send police to kill us. Sadly, the money coming to fund the credit card points is mostly from people who are struggling more than we are.
