schestowitz"Jan 23 09:18
schestowitzHi Roy. I'm not sure I agree with everything in your article. I have seen no solid evidence that Startpage is violating its privacy promises. As an auditor, I need proof to make such strong assertions.Jan 23 09:18
schestowitzYes, recent lack of transparency and the relationship with System1 have caused me great concern. I am very uncomfortable that System1 processes searches for Startpage, even if personal information is fuzzed. I'm not happy with the privacy policies I've seen for System1 and associated companies it controls, like Infospace. I could go on and on with my lack of comfort with System1. For that reason, I have sought other search options.Jan 23 09:18
schestowitzI am also concerned about the reported job offer to a xxxxxx employee that appears to have happened during a delisting/relisting discussion period, but I still don't know all the facts on that. It appears to have happened and should raise questions and concerns -- which I hope will be answered at some point soon. The offer could be an attempt to influence the relisting, or it could be very bad judgement on the part of Startpage/System1. Jan 23 09:18
schestowitzEither way, the details should be made public IMHO.Jan 23 09:18
schestowitzIt is very odd that xxxx is suddenly putting Startpage as his top pick for a search engine. He used to favor DuckDuckGo, if I recall. It Is very odd that he recommended the Startpage relisting. It's odd he's suddenly retweeting Startpage posts. It's odd that he's suddenly changed his business model and title to "privacy consultant." That said, odd isn't always proof. I hope to learn more soon.Jan 23 09:18

DaemonFC[m]Microsoft is apparently upstreaming quite a few power savings tricks from Edge into Chromium.Jan 23 19:03
DaemonFC[m]I don't really much care where the code came from. I suppose Google could have done this but Microsoft probably had a patent on it or something.Jan 23 19:03
DaemonFC[m]Knowing them.Jan 23 19:04
DaemonFC[m]Microsoft tends to get patents on everything they do. I'm surprised they haven't attacked Wine or distributions that carry it, for that matter. Jan 23 19:04
DaemonFC[m]Obviously trying to reimplement the entire Windows API is a bigger scope than .Net. Jan 23 19:05
DaemonFC[m]If Microsoft didn't think that "copyrights" on API was a thing, I wonder what made Oracle think they could get away with it for Java.Jan 23 19:05
DaemonFC[m]The "Windows Genuine Advantage" checks failed on Wine.Jan 23 19:07

DaemonFC[m]Apparently, the architecture of Wine changed pretty significantly in the 5.0 development cycle.Jan 23 19:08
DaemonFC[m]The internal components for "Windows" are now in PE format, which makes DRM software doing functionality checks more likely to work, according to the release notes.Jan 23 19:09
MinceRthat means there are patents on doing just about everything in IT in a really shitty, ass backwards way :>Jan 23 19:20

DaemonFC[m]MinceR: From looking at source code comments in Chromium years ago, the sandbox was implemented based on reverse engineering the way Internet Explorer Protected Mode worked with the kernel in Windows Vista.Jan 23 19:36
DaemonFC[m]That was pretty funny.Jan 23 19:36
