[15:48] DaemonFC[m] I don't find it pleasant to shop there, honestly. [15:48] DaemonFC[m] The Lewis Fresh Market has much better service and none of those godawful self-checks. [15:50] techrights-bot #RedHat Summit Stuff and Press Releases http://www.tuxmachines.org/node/150505 #GNU #Linux #TuxMachines [15:50] -TechrightsBot-tr/#techrights-www.tuxmachines.org | Red Hat Summit Stuff and Press Releases | Tux Machines [15:50] DaemonFC[m] If Walmart wanted more customer loyalty they would have a clean, well-stocked store, with cashiers instead of these machines that basically say "Are you an idiot or are you stealing from us?". [15:51] DaemonFC[m] Those machines cost a lot more than they are worth to the company. [15:52] DaemonFC[m] Independent studies show that theft goes up 4% after cashiers are replaced by the machines. [15:53] DaemonFC[m] This one store lost over $3.5 million to theft over the most recent 12 month inventory. [15:54] DaemonFC[m] If you could yank out the self-checks and assume theft went down just 4%, that would have been 6 full time cashiers with benefits. [15:55] DaemonFC[m] Then you lose productivity, because you get angry customers when the self-checks are backed up across the store, and they leave entire shopping carts behind because they don't have any more time to spend there. That all needs to be restocked, except for the frozen food which will be thawed out and thrown in the garbage. [15:56] DaemonFC[m] The self-checks back up for a lot of reasons, including customers bagging their stuff at a leisurely pace or the machine stopping them from scanning while it calls the cashier over to deal with a single item that didn't scan right. [15:57] DaemonFC[m] Then you get up there and some are in cash only or card only mode, and you don't know what mode it is or which machines are in that mode because it changes and sometimes they all accept both. [15:57] techrights-bot Packages upcycled in #PCLinuxOS http://www.tuxmachines.org/node/147392#comment-29380 #gnu #linux [15:57] -TechrightsBot-tr/#techrights-www.tuxmachines.org | Distribution Release: PCLinuxOS 2021.02 | Tux Machines [15:58] DaemonFC[m] Then you need to pay vendors to maintain the machines, and pay for upgrades to them. That's not cheap considering that you already have cash registers that are much simpler technology that are sitting there unused. [15:59] DaemonFC[m] So it ends up being a clusterfuck that pisses customers off and loses you money. [15:59] DaemonFC[m] The extra shrink costs the company in ways that are not just s direct loss of dollar value. ● Apr 27 [16:00] DaemonFC[m] If you're losing an extra 4% to theft and employees aren't handling the claims that they do know about correctly (as you pay them to throw stuff in the trash), it will knock off your inventory and then the store computer won't know what you have, and then you may end up with less items on the shelf than there should be, which causes you lost sales if the customers can't buy product. [16:01] DaemonFC[m] These self-checkouts are just false economy, and you'd think that Walmart of all companies would realize that and quit doubling down on something that will never replace the wages that they could just be paying to an employee. [17:57] DaemonFC[m] That was a temporary solution because the MINIX File System proved to be inadequate shortly after and was totally replaced before much of anyone was using the Linux kernel. [17:58] DaemonFC[m] The idea of reincarnation is idiotic, but I wonder how you can ban people from believing in it, or why you would even try to. [17:58] -TechrightsBot-tr/#techrights- ( status 404 @ https://news.knowyourmeme.com/ne ) [17:58] MinceR they banned something for promoting life after death [17:58] MinceR so they should also ban the Bible [17:58] DaemonFC[m] I also wonder if the ban extends to pirate copies. [17:59] DaemonFC[m] It's not like the Russians have ever pirated anything, you know. [17:59] MinceR does that make a difference? [17:59] DaemonFC[m] Well, in some cases, Illinois state law prohibits weird stuff, you know. [17:59] DaemonFC[m] Like, selling something is illegal, but possessing it is not illegan. [17:59] DaemonFC[m] *illegal [17:59] MinceR ic ● Apr 27 [18:00] DaemonFC[m] Or giving someone something is illegal and a felony at that, but they can't do anything to the person who has it. [18:00] DaemonFC[m] I've always wondered what the rationale is here. [18:00] DaemonFC[m] If something is so bad that it's a felony to give or sell it to someone, why wouldn't there be a law against having it? [18:01] DaemonFC[m] Also, wouldn't it seem like the law contradicts itself sometimes? [18:02] DaemonFC[m] For example, the age of consent for sex in Indiana is 16, right? [18:02] DaemonFC[m] Sex generally means you get naked or else it doesn't work. [18:02] DaemonFC[m] Under another law, possession of child pornography is, of course, a felony. [18:03] DaemonFC[m] It is defined in such a way that having a copy on a persistent storage device that is accessible to you is a felony. [18:03] DaemonFC[m] A person's brain is a persistent storage device that contains retrievable memories. [18:03] DaemonFC[m] It is also a computer. [18:04] DaemonFC[m] So if you see someone underage who is naked while you are doing a thing that the state made legal, then you are also committing a felony using a computer. [18:04] MinceR so if i fill a usb flash storage device with child pr0n and chain it to a wall on the street, i can have everyone in the world punished for that felony? [18:04] MinceR though maybe it should be done in congress first [18:05] DaemonFC[m] Well, no, because the law adds "whoever knowingly and willingly" does it, at least at the state level, in most states. [18:05] nullz Correct [18:05] DaemonFC[m] Although at the federal level, there is no such exception. [18:05] nullz You would have to plug in the USB, load up the CP -- and then knowning what it was, you would CHOOOSE to save the files [18:05] MinceR well, the device is already accessible to everyone [18:05] DaemonFC[m] So in Illinois, if you're on Grindr and a 15 year old sends you nudes, then you are in compliance with Illinois law and cannot be charged with CP if you delete them immediately. [18:05] DaemonFC[m] But under federal law, you can now be prosecuted by them for the CP and for destruction of evidence. [18:06] MinceR what if you do that but aren't good enough at using computers and move the CP into the Recycle Bin instead? [18:06] nullz Its always strange to me how quickly some people "stan" for "Free speech" but really just want pedo rights [18:06] MinceR lol [18:06] *nullz shrugs [18:06] DaemonFC[m] That has been argued in Illinois state court actually. [18:07] DaemonFC[m] The defendant was let go because the state could only show that the CP was in the recycling bin and in the browser's cache area, or marked deleted on the file system. [18:07] nullz Personally if I found CP on a device, i'm reporting it to law enforcement ASAP [18:07] MinceR and moving to jail? [18:07] DaemonFC[m] The court ruled that this is not part of the "active file system", but rather an "inactive area". [18:07] nullz Children are real people, and people who turn children into porn are garbage. [18:07] MinceR porn is not people, though [18:08] nullz Well no MinceR there is a huge difference between you and me [18:08] nullz when the FBI searches my drives they wont find my "pedo stash" like they would on yours [18:08] nullz and thats why i woulnt go to jail <3 [18:08] MinceR and people who negligently force law on people that makes everyone guilty are garbage as well [18:08] DaemonFC[m] My point is that what the law is, is never clear cut, until it is. [18:08] DaemonFC[m] There has to be case law to make any meaning out of it. [18:08] MinceR nullz: nice implications there [18:08] nullz thank you! you sorta gave them to me by fighting so hard for pedo rights to own CP [18:09] nullz made me wonder why you felt so strongly about it [18:09] nullz then there was that comment about law enforcment [18:09] MinceR i didn't realize human rights were "pedo rights" [18:09] nullz and i thought "why would they arrest me" -- then i thought -- "ooooooooooooooh, he'd go to jail for having CP" [18:09] DaemonFC[m] The Russian court that outlawed the anime due to promotion of a belief in reincarnation didn't actually ban anything. [18:09] DaemonFC[m] As the order is unenforceable. [18:10] nullz drawings of underage children are another can of worms completely [18:10] DaemonFC[m] In fact, now that people aren't allowed to watch that show, they'll almost certainly flock to some bittorrent web site and make it very popular in Russia because of the court. [18:10] nullz i'd ask what anime, but the list might be too big =P [18:10] MinceR i didn't realize nullz was such a great fan of illegal numbers :> [18:11] nullz MinceR: if you dont like the way people see you online, maybe stop projecting those vibes. [18:13] MinceR nice hallucinations again [18:13] MinceR nice projection, nullz [18:13] nullz okay MinceR a bit late for that [18:13] nullz you're littearlly saying what i already said. its kinda sad. [18:13] MinceR attack someone for not cancelling someone you have a vendetta against and then claim you were attacked by that someone [18:13] nullz You got caught being a pedo for CP online, sorry lol [18:14] nullz MinceR its too late, just say CP is gross and illegal and move on [18:14] nullz stop trying to defend peoples right to look at CP [18:14] nullz its gross [18:14] MinceR nullz: are you at least being paid for this bullshit? [18:14] nullz No, i just think people who promote "CP" as "Freedom" are gross [18:14] nullz CP != Freedom [18:15] MinceR can you cite anyone promoting "CP" here? [18:15] nullz MinceR: just read your own chat log for the last 10mins [18:15] nullz you just sit there and stan for CP, claiming the laws are too strict [18:15] nullz rofl [18:15] MinceR i did, and there was no such thing [18:15] MinceR and who is Stan? [18:15] nullz okay boomer [18:16] MinceR seriously, it's sad how low the bar for corporate trolling is nowadays [18:16] MinceR IBM couldn't afford anyone better than you? [18:20] DaemonFC[m] I'm just saying I'm surprised that the state hasn't argued in court that people are computers. [18:20] DaemonFC[m] I've heard them make stranger arguments to prosecute a case. [18:20] MinceR maybe they can't afford sufficiently crafty jurists [18:21] nullz MinceR: just because its an opinion you disagree with, does not mean its "trolling" [18:21] MinceR a corporate lawyer would have to do so first, perhaps :> [18:21] MinceR nullz: crapflooding a channel with offtopic garbage is, though [18:21] nullz Its like when i reported to, the channel mode that there is a seuxal preditor in the channel [18:21] nullz and you said you didnt care lol [18:21] MinceR i have yet to see evidence of sexual predation over IRC [18:21] MinceR at least in this channel [18:21] nullz MinceR: oh what are you going to do? moderate the channel like you refused to do when a sexual preditor was harrassming people in channel? [18:21] nullz so i see [18:21] nullz if a woman makes you angry [18:21] nullz you can ban her [18:21] nullz got it [18:22] MinceR ah yes, women have special rights [18:22] nullz just maknig sure i understand your "rules" [18:22] MinceR got to mention that [18:22] nullz yeah, we get direspected by you i guess [18:22] MinceR so you'll get special treatment [18:22] nullz seems to be our "special right" when you come here [18:22] DaemonFC[m] MinceR: They have infrared vision, a cloaking device, and a plasma canon. [18:22] DaemonFC[m] So you'll never see them until it's too late. [18:22] MinceR "i'm a woman, you should have removed someone i hate from the channel, even though i never said what i wanted!" [18:22] nullz MinceR basically supports sexual preditors, in the channel -- and ones who look at CP theortically online [18:22] nullz MinceR: you kinda sound like a real douche right now [18:22] nullz just FYI [18:23] MinceR nullz: have you dreamt anything else recently? [18:23] DaemonFC[m] The article about Tor on Wikipedia has citations about attacks on the network. [18:23] nullz MinceR: dreams are private. and off topic. we're talking about your failure to moderate this channel, and then threats to those who personaly disagree with you [18:23] nullz Aka mod abuse [18:23] MinceR nullz: good, then stop typing them in [18:23] nullz MinceR: that wasnt as smart as you think it sounded [18:24] nullz sorta, cringe. [18:24] DaemonFC[m] I personally think it's not very well designed, having read through some of it. [18:24] MinceR nullz: too bad [18:24] nullz DaemonFC[m]: you mean MinceR going to bat for pedos? [18:24] nullz lets think about this -- a real child is sexually exploited [18:24] nullz and forced to pose naked for a photo, possibly engage in a non-consentual sex act [18:24] nullz and you're over here trying to find loopholes for the people who distribute it? [18:25] nullz what the actual f is wrong with you lol [18:25] MinceR none of that was discussed [18:25] nullz thats what child porn is MinceR [18:25] nullz fucks sake [18:25] MinceR maybe you can stop building strawmen now [18:25] MinceR it must be exhausting [18:25] DaemonFC[m] I know much about the law that isn't particularly relevant. [18:25] nullz "im not talking about sexual exploitation of children, im talking about CP" [18:25] MinceR typing in all that shit to support your corporate sponsors [18:25] DaemonFC[m] Much of it is just the product of bored reading. [18:25] nullz CHILD PORN IS SEXUAL EXPLOITATION OF CHILDREN. are you fucking daft? [18:25] MinceR nullz: try to focus on quality, not quantity. [18:25] nullz CP isnt just "an image" it comes from a real person. [18:26] MinceR nullz: then maybe go after people who create child pron [18:26] nullz a real human being is sexual assaulted to create CP [18:26] nullz MinceR: so you support the right to own CP on your computer? [18:26] nullz lets just be clear [18:26] MinceR those are the people you need to punish, not the bits you sneak onto other people's computers [18:26] nullz MinceR: do you support the right of people to own CP. Yes or No. [18:26] nullz stop dodging this simple yes or no question [18:26] MinceR nullz: unlike your sponsors, i'm not really into the whole "Intellectual Property" bullshit [18:26] nullz Yes or No [18:27] DaemonFC[m] I think anything beyond copyright infringement behind a fig leaf is pretty stupid, honestly. [18:27] nullz do you believe that owning Child Porn shoudl be illegal. Yes or no [18:27] nullz if you dodge one more time, its confirmed pedo lol [18:27] MinceR go back to kindergarten, they're missing your style [18:27] nullz Watch i'll do it [18:27] DaemonFC[m] There's so many attacks on the software and trap doors in infrastructure itself that people would have to be nuts to do anything illegal online. [18:27] nullz Child Porn should be illegal. Anyone who has it should get locked up. [18:27] MinceR "i'll say it one more time and that proves you're a poopyhead!" [18:27] nullz That was easy. YES child porn should be illega. [18:27] nullz You still have not said you think child porn should be illegal. [18:28] nullz You keep talking, but you wont answer a simple YES or NO question. [18:28] nullz you just dodge [18:28] MinceR i guess no one with a brain would sink low enough to troll this channel for International Bullshit Machine, so they had to make do with nullz [18:28] nullz MinceR everyone, the man who cant say it should be illegal to have CP. Makes one wonder why he is so invested! [18:28] DaemonFC[m] Well, I don't really care to form an opinion of that issue, honestly, because I'm not a state lawmaker. [18:28] nullz i gave him an easy out too [18:28] DaemonFC[m] If I was, I'd probably consider the whole issue more. [18:28] nullz thats the sad part [18:28] nullz i spoon fed him an easy out [18:29] DaemonFC[m] I'm not in a position to write or enforce laws. [18:29] MinceR don't worry, nullz's owners are [18:29] DaemonFC[m] That's what the whole bullshit state is about, which theoretically also derives its authority from me. [18:29] nullz yes, everyone who disagrees with you is being paid [18:29] MinceR they own the country you live in [18:29] DaemonFC[m] Even though it never asks what I think. [18:30] nullz lol no one would pay anyone to talk here because [18:30] nullz none of this matters [18:30] nullz i came here 'cause i wanted to [18:30] MinceR you wanted that cent really hard [18:30] DaemonFC[m] If the state cared what I thought, things would be a lot different. [18:30] nullz "Okay, we could spend our millions to buy stories in the washington post or new yourk times" -- "NAH LETS SPEND IT ALL ON TROLLING TECHRIGHTS" [18:31] nullz is that the dellusion you live in? [18:31] DaemonFC[m] Unemployment would be gone, people I didn't think should be part of society would be incinerated as punishment. [18:31] MinceR oh, they're paying you millions for this? [18:31] nullz wow you dont even know how lobbying works [18:31] MinceR damn, they've lost all remaining sense then [18:31] nullz this is impressive [18:31] nullz MinceR: is the earth round or flat? [18:31] nullz answer [18:31] nullz i mean there is no way [18:31] MinceR whatever your owners tell you it is [18:32] nullz okay so you suggest you might be a flat earther, no confirmatoin yet [18:32] DaemonFC[m] Consider that the people who _are_ actually in charge of the State of Illinois let a man who was convicted of raping and killing a 6 year old boy in 1996 out "for good behavior" a few weeks ago. [18:32] MinceR no u [18:32] nullz lol MinceR might believe in flat earth lol [18:32] DaemonFC[m] He lives in Chicago now and the state just says "Well, have fun with it.". [18:32] nullz the earth is round btw [18:32] MinceR DaemonFC[m]: well, it was nothing serious, like copyright infringement on software or movies or music... [18:33] DaemonFC[m] In the mean time, we have to care what my opinions of things I can't influence are. [18:33] *rianne_ has quit (Ping timeout: 240 seconds) [18:33] MinceR "the earth is round" doesn't really answer the question though [18:33] nullz lol MinceR tell us why its not round [18:33] nullz please [18:33] nullz i'm waiting [18:33] MinceR oblate spheroids are round, spheres are round, discs are round, toruses are round... [18:34] MinceR cylinders are round [18:34] DaemonFC[m] If you want to know what my opinion is, they should just allow those people who don't want him there to put a bullet in his head and not try too hard to solve the case. [18:34] nullz so you are willing to nail down how speicfic you think the earths shape is [18:34] DaemonFC[m] They already fail to solve 93% of the murders in Chicago anyway. [18:34] *liberty_box has quit (Ping timeout: 252 seconds) [18:34] nullz but you are unwilling to say child porn should be illegal to collect. [18:34] DaemonFC[m] Why try harder over this guy? [18:34] nullz amazing logic! [18:34] DaemonFC[m] I hope someone gets him. [18:34] nullz who is him? [18:35] nullz nice flex [18:36] DaemonFC[m] Chicago is a stinking cesspit. This current mayor is the worst one they've ever had. [18:36] *rianne_ (~rianne@host81-154-169-167.range81-154.btcentralplus.com) has joined #techrights [18:36] DaemonFC[m] She's there because she ticks all the SJW boxes, and the city is all boarded up, bullets flying everywhere, 40% youth unemployment. [18:36] nullz "SJW" boxes [18:37] MinceR nullz got triggered [18:37] MinceR now she's going to tell mommy [18:37] nullz DaemonFC[m]: can you define "SJW"? just curious. outside of what it stands for. [18:37] nullz MinceR: calm down snowflake who likes CP and publically stans for pedo rights [18:37] *liberty_box (~liberty@host81-154-169-167.range81-154.btcentralplus.com) has joined #techrights [18:37] MinceR again, who is this Stan? [18:37] nullz do you know what a search engine is? [18:37] MinceR the armonk mafia couldn't even afford someone who can type english? [18:37] DaemonFC[m] The kind who are so hot to put a black lesbian mayor in charge of a major city that they don't care what her positions on issues are and what will happen to said city after she's in. [18:38] nullz https://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=Stan [18:38] DaemonFC[m] She's black and she munches carpet. Get in there! [18:38] -TechrightsBot-tr/#techrights-www.urbandictionary.com | Urban Dictionary: Stan [18:38] nullz DaemonFC[m]: name the issues she has that you disagree with insetad of making the strawman "shes a black lesbian and i dislike this [18:38] DaemonFC[m] She's so thoroughly despised that CPD had to put K-Rails and a detachment of cops cordoning off her block. [18:38] nullz because you only named two facts about her. Her sexual identity (lesbiain) and her blackness. [18:39] DaemonFC[m] So she doesn't have to deal with people waving protest signs. [18:39] MinceR nullz wants her owners to get people jailed for what they manage to scrape from their browser caches [18:39] nullz DaemonFC[m]: could you please show me a real policy? [18:39] nullz links? sources? proof? [18:39] nullz MinceR: You can say this, but you still are on irc in public defending pedo rights to have CP [18:39] MinceR we already have sites showing only part of an image for UI elements, might as well put CP in the invisible parts [18:39] DaemonFC[m] Well, for starters, during COVID, she decided to fence off open air parks and the people of the city weren't having it and tore the fences down and used the parks anyway while the cops just watched them do it. :) [18:39] MinceR and arrest everyone who visits the page [18:40] DaemonFC[m] It's nice when people decide that the government is bullshit and do something about it, isn't it? [18:40] *psydroid wonders if schestowitz is around [18:40] nullz DaemonFC[m]: There was no federal guidance on COVID-19 in the USA. Every locality had to manage the lockdowns on their own [18:40] MinceR nullz: refusing to defend your owners' campaign for extreme "Intellectual Property" laws is not "defending pedo rights" [18:40] DaemonFC[m] Maybe next it'll be tax refusal. [18:40] DaemonFC[m] A guy can dream. [18:40] nullz I know COVID-19 is scary, but it is also real [18:40] DaemonFC[m] The response to it was worse than the disease, honestly. [18:41] nullz so basically she shut down public places to stop people from spreading covid-19 [18:41] nullz and this is bad how? [18:41] MinceR nullz: ignoring problems with laws allowing overreach is not "defending pedo rights" [18:41] DaemonFC[m] Violence in the city due to unemployment is the highest it's been since the 1980sl [18:41] nullz MinceR: you can try to flip this, but you wont even say that COLLECTING Child Porn should be illegal. You refuse [18:41] DaemonFC[m] Chicago is a good example of government overreach. [18:41] MinceR i'm not trying to flip anything [18:41] MinceR i'm exposing your lies [18:41] nullz So ummm, refusing to say collecting child porn should be illegal, is sorta.. being a stan for pedos [18:41] DaemonFC[m] They'll do ridiculous things just because they can. They just aren't used to people fighting back. [18:42] DaemonFC[m] Throwing their stinking fence into the lake. [18:42] MinceR nullz: how will your owners decide whether the bits they've found on a victim's SSD was "COLLECTED" or not? [18:42] nullz DaemonFC[m]: do you belive that COVID-19 is real? [18:42] MinceR "everything i don't like is being a Stan for pedos" [18:42] nullz just checking the baseline here [18:42] nullz MinceR: no, just you [18:42] nullz this is the first time i've ever said that phrase [18:42] MinceR oh, right [18:42] nullz you totally invented it [18:42] MinceR "everyone i don't like is being a Stan for pedos" [18:42] nullz by being such a stan for pedos [18:42] nullz i honestly dont usualy hang out with the creepy ones [18:42] nullz so -- this is a first for me <3 [18:43] DaemonFC[m] Of course not. I usually put 1,600 miles on my car to get us vaccinated for something that's not real. [18:43] nullz Dont promote a view, if you cant handle the reality of having it lol [18:43] MinceR nullz: is it possible for you to be any more intellectually lazy or dishonest than this? [18:43] nullz I mean, i'm being honest. This is how i feel. [18:43] MinceR have you tried to have it treated? [18:43] nullz Can you be anymore full of dog whistles and false equivocations? [18:44] MinceR maybe a brain transplant could help you [18:44] DaemonFC[m] But COVID is basically close to being as over with as it ever will be. [18:44] nullz DaemonFC[m]: And you know this because you are a medical doctor with a focus on virology? [18:44] nullz or are you just spreading bullshit out your ass? [18:44] MinceR nullz: are you? [18:44] DaemonFC[m] Blocking off open air parks and telling people not to exercise and then put on weight really helps COVID doesn't it? [18:44] nullz i did not make a medical claim [18:44] nullz he did [18:45] MinceR you made a comment on what you claim was a medical claim [18:45] DaemonFC[m] The percentage of people who have gotten at least a first vaccine dose is very close to the average of polls percentage of people saying they plan to. [18:45] DaemonFC[m] So within a couple of months we'll hit a hard ceiling and then there's just not a lot more to do. [18:45] nullz my source https://covid.cdc.gov/covid-data-tracker/ [18:45] -TechrightsBot-tr/#techrights-covid.cdc.gov | CDC COVID Data Tracker [18:46] nullz COVID-19 is real, we have data to back it up. [18:46] nullz What do you have? Claims about a fence that you dislike? [18:46] MinceR has anyone here claimed it wasn't? [18:46] nullz Downplaying [18:46] DaemonFC[m] I don't wear a mask anymore except very loosely at places they'll raz me about it. [18:46] nullz "i dont wear a mask anymore" [18:46] nullz this dude is spreading covid19 around, getting people sick [18:46] nullz wow thats pretty gross dude [18:47] nullz wear a mask, nobody wants to have a death in their family becuse they made the mitsake of walking by you [18:47] nullz its not about you [18:47] nullz its about protecting otherse in the commuinty you dip shit [18:47] nullz so selfish [18:47] DaemonFC[m] These dumbass politicians presume to tell me whether I have to wear a mask outside. [18:47] psydroid this is obvious distraction on the part of corporate masters [18:47] DaemonFC[m] To hell with them. [18:47] MinceR nullz: can you try discussing something someone actually said (as opposed as what you hallucinated) for once? [18:47] nullz Dumb fucks who dont wear masks like you, are why it keeps spreading [18:47] nullz you are littearlly the problem [18:47] DaemonFC[m] I've been vaccinated. [18:48] nullz You can still carry it you dipshit [18:48] psydroid so I hope schestowitz will do the proper thing when he is present [18:48] nullz and spread it to unvaccinated people [18:48] DaemonFC[m] They can go stand somewhere else if they don't feel safe enough around me. [18:48] MinceR psydroid: it is, but we have a policy of allowing that here :> [18:48] nullz you fucking moron [18:48] nullz i'm out [18:48] nullz y'all are fucking gross [18:48] nullz this is disgusting [18:48] *nullz (elisa@hypatia/staff/elisa) has left #techrights [18:48] MinceR don't come back [18:48] psydroid never ever come back [18:48] DaemonFC[m] See, now that's how you get rid of them. [18:49] MinceR nice [18:50] DaemonFC[m] On the point about data, though....I mean, during the peak about 2-3 million Americans were getting it per day assuming the CDC was right about confirmed cases and ones they miss. [18:50] DaemonFC[m] That was with the masks required just about everywhere. [18:51] DaemonFC[m] 300,000-ish a day and they say that's only about 15-20% of the total because not everyone has symptoms and gets tested. [18:51] DaemonFC[m] I don't think that the masks slow it down very much, but it was worth a try. [18:52] DaemonFC[m] Besides, the point of the masks was to slow it down because we got close to having our hospital system collapse a couple of times. [18:52] DaemonFC[m] Since the vaccines are good enough to keep almost everyone out of the hospital, I don't think it's such a huge deal anymore. [18:52] DaemonFC[m] Pretty soon, the only people you could potentially spread it to who are in any great danger, will be anti-vaxxers who tend to accumulate on the far right anyway. [18:54] DaemonFC[m] The reason I said I wear one where I have to wear one is because I've seen stores call the cops on people for not wearing them and then it all spirals out of control when they get there and it leads to 3 or 4 criminal charges. It's not worth that much hassle, even though the masks don't really do all that much. [18:54] DaemonFC[m] Plus, in Walmart, my husband's boss knows who I am and I don't want to cause an incident where he works, obviously. [18:55] DaemonFC[m] So I just use the thinnest mask I have and tie it as loose as it goes. Humorously enough, it's one of the ones that Walmart passes out to their employees. [18:55] DaemonFC[m] It says Walmart on it and you can see daylight through it. [18:56] DaemonFC[m] It doesn't fog up my glasses that bad. [18:57] MinceR so has the number of people in hospitals decreased significantly yet? [18:59] DaemonFC[m] Yeah. The state actually embarrassed itself quite badly. ● Apr 27 [19:00] DaemonFC[m] It set up emergency field hospitals for thousands of people and then maybe dozens of beds got used. [19:00] DaemonFC[m] And they had nurses standing there being paid $50 an hour. [19:01] DaemonFC[m] While all of the people who never ended up there were busy tearing down Mayor Lightfoot's fences around the parks and tossing them into Lake Michigan. [19:02] DaemonFC[m] MinceR: I thought it was funny that that guy just left because he didn't like what I said. [19:02] DaemonFC[m] I mean I'm gay and I didn't vote for her and I didn't vote for Pete Buttigieg for president. Why would I vote for someone I strongly disagree with because they're gay? [19:02] MinceR because it's the "hip" and "cool" thing to do, obviously [19:03] DaemonFC[m] If a straight person said "I'm going to vote for this straight person because I'm straight, and that other candidate is gay!" they'd be crucified. [19:04] DaemonFC[m] I supported Bernie Sanders in the primary even though I knew they'd find a way to steer it somewhere else again because I agreed with him more than the rest. [19:04] MinceR doing otherwise is "cringe" and "gross" [19:04] MinceR 27 200309 < DaemonFC[m]> If a straight person said "I'm going to vote for this straight person because I'm straight, and that other candidate is gay!" they'd be crucified. [19:04] MinceR that's the point [19:04] MinceR being an SJW means getting to be racist and sexist and not only getting away with it, but even being fashionable about it [19:04] MinceR you just need to know who the acceptable targets are [19:05] kingoffrance ever-shifting targets too [19:05] DaemonFC[m] I actually really hate it when they make something like who is going to lead the country, or the state, or even a city or township about sexual orientation. [19:05] MinceR though apparently being sufficiently rich and powerful transcends even that [19:05] DaemonFC[m] I don't think it should hurt or help their campaign. It's a neutral issue, or it should be. [19:05] MinceR after all, International Bullshit Machine gets to be respected despite helping hitler catalogue and kill jews [19:06] MinceR and SJWs happily do activism to IBM's benefit [19:06] DaemonFC[m] Richard Stallman has let some people in who were trans or whatever because I don't think he considered the issue very much and then they turned out to be as nasty as mjg59and they hurt the FSF very badly in other ways. [19:07] DaemonFC[m] Drawing negative publicity, for starters. [19:07] psydroid they are insecure hypocrites [19:07] DaemonFC[m] Like, "OMG RMS got rid of me because I'm TRANS!!!". [19:07] DaemonFC[m] Okay, if he got rid of you for being trans, why did he hire you? [19:08] DaemonFC[m] Presumably it was obvious. I mean, you don't pass very well, sorry not sorry. [19:08] DaemonFC[m] But I assume he knew you were trans. [19:09] DaemonFC[m] The LibreBoot person. What was the name? [19:09] DaemonFC[m] Anyway, turned out to be 100% toxic. [19:10] DaemonFC[m] People who go looking to others for validation are always going to be depressed and mentally unbalanced. [19:12] DaemonFC[m] It used to be villains and child molesters. [19:12] DaemonFC[m] It was kind of an unwritten rule. [19:12] DaemonFC[m] Then in the 90s there were a few moments where it was implied someone was gay, but they couldn't go any further with it. [19:13] DaemonFC[m] Now they have to make them heroes and throw it in your face just how gay they are. [19:13] DaemonFC[m] And I get that maybe there's some guilt going on here about being treated badly in film over the years to garner favor with a majority opinion that has changed. [19:14] DaemonFC[m] But they should just agree not to do that again and be done with it. [19:14] DaemonFC[m] I noticed now, it's things like Star Trek: Discovery where they're almost afraid to give gay characters any personality flaws at all. [19:15] DaemonFC[m] It feel fake, and so I think the risk is it feels forced, and then people don't accept it as normal because it's being presented in such a way. [19:16] DaemonFC[m] I also don't think that it's being given much consideration that making an issue of throwing in a gay chicago mayor just to say you did it is going to have lasting negative effects when she's a really bad mayor and anyone could have seen it coming, but they were more concerned with things that don't matter. [19:17] DaemonFC[m] Their punch card system also kept track of gay prisoners in the camps and whether they had been gassed or shot yet. [19:18] DaemonFC[m] But IBM is progressive now, so get over it! [19:18] MinceR yeah, there were a couple other groups they were trying to exterminate [19:19] DaemonFC[m] Gay people tend to be a genetic dead end anyway. For the most part, we don't maintain numbers by sexual reproduction. [19:19] DaemonFC[m] So the Nazis could have kept killing endlessly and it never would have worked out. [19:20] MinceR authoritarians were never too bright [19:20] DaemonFC[m] The genetic component is obviously carried in human DNA anyway whether it is active or not and the fact that it's always a stable percentage of children born who turn out gay is quite remarkable really. [19:22] DaemonFC[m] I've heard that Hitler was mostly displeased by the fact that gay people weren't going to reproduce and drive up the population of German workers and soldiers. [19:22] DaemonFC[m] But that makes no sense. [19:22] DaemonFC[m] They could have been German workers and soldiers, and without the distraction of children to raise. [19:22] MinceR did he think that killing them is going to make them reproduce? [19:22] DaemonFC[m] Highly productive ones, even. [19:23] DaemonFC[m] Well, my take on the far-right's hatred of gays is that it's less about killing and more about scaring into "not being gay anymore". [19:23] MinceR ah yes, because they believe that's how it works [19:23] DaemonFC[m] So it's possible that by committing mass murder, he figured that eventually others would see it as too high a risk and "just not live that way" because the penalties were severe. And as strange as it sounds, I've known people, especially in my parents' generation, who were extremely gay, and totally closeted about it. [19:33] MinceR like the state [19:46] DaemonFC[m] Yeah, they usually come in and make an even bigger problem than people said was the case before. [19:46] DaemonFC[m] Healthcare, for example. [19:47] DaemonFC[m] I didn't even bother paying for health insurance before. [19:47] DaemonFC[m] It was a lot of money and I would never get more than about 3-5% of what I would have paid for it out of it in a typical year. [19:47] MinceR i mean, the state itself is such a proposed cure that turned out to be a bigger mess [19:47] DaemonFC[m] It's basically a giant furnace for money. [19:48] DaemonFC[m] Yeah, the state is a giant furnace for money too. [19:49] DaemonFC[m] It steals from you twice. [19:49] DaemonFC[m] Once with taxes and then again when no amount of taxes are enough so it just prints up a bunch more money to cover its own expenses, making yours buy less. [19:50] DaemonFC[m] MinceR: I don't know how the states in the US get into such a huge mess on their own. [19:50] MinceR AdmFubar: fascinating video [19:50] DaemonFC[m] They have taxes, then the feds give them 50-60% of their budget in order to make sure they don't do anything that pisses it off and gets them to lose their money. [19:51] DaemonFC[m] Every now and then people get the idea to overthrow a state, then they set up a new one that's doing everything that they complained the last one did. [19:52] DaemonFC[m] The state and the police are just the armed thugs you think would take over and rob you blind if there was no state and no police. [19:53] DaemonFC[m] Then they use some of your money to buy off other people and maybe even you too. [19:53] DaemonFC[m] You get back some benefits which probably don't even compensate you for what they took and then you feel obligated to make sure nothing happens to the state. It's taking care of you, you know. ● Apr 27 [20:10] DaemonFC[m] MinceR: I got 14 more CDs ripped. I wish I had the storage space and computing power to do this right 15-20 years. [22:06] DaemonFC[m] It's not actually crippled in the sense that the LC profile has anything wrong with it, and that would be the most well supported on the decoder side as well and the most used profile overall, especially at bitrates people actually use. [22:07] DaemonFC[m] What got disabled was the High Efficiency AAC stuff that only comes in handy at extremely low bitrates. You can use it at higher bitrates, but the documentation from the ISO itself suggests that it will tend to give worse quality because the SBR data will interfere with the way the base standard works. [22:08] DaemonFC[m] At low bitrates, there's no harm done to the psy model of the base codec because the frequencies it would have handled are not encoded anyway. [22:09] DaemonFC[m] But by low bitrates, I mean HE-AAC really only starts to help out lower than 96 kbps and most people don't even use that, and it creates compatibility problems. [22:09] DaemonFC[m] Files would still play on decoders that only recognize LC, but it would disregard the SBR and PS (extremely low bitrates) stuff and it would be crap. [22:09] DaemonFC[m] This is the result of evergreening for patents. [22:10] DaemonFC[m] These profiles are clunky and in in some cases counterproductive. [22:11] DaemonFC[m] I dislike "base" standards with other profiles, because it's essentially the same thing as breaking the bitstream and having another codec. [22:12] DaemonFC[m] If someone tries to implement just a base standard, sometimes it doesn't even result in a usable implementation at all. [22:13] DaemonFC[m] So that JPEG2000 and JPEG-XR mess where they said the "base standard" would be royalty free because they support making baseline functionality universally available was a good laugh, right? [22:13] DaemonFC[m] Then you go to open the files and they don't work because someone edited them in a program that had other features and goes "Oh, that sounds great. Click.".
