[00:23] DaemonFC But I feel bad for the people I know who are. [00:23] DaemonFC We're the only first world country that still has so many people dying of AIDS. [00:23] DaemonFC Seriously. AIDS! [00:24] DaemonFC It shouldn't be 7,000 a year. It shouldn't even be 100. [00:24] DaemonFC If it was just down to treatment failure, the US would have 50 or 60 AIDS deaths in the entire nation, per year. [00:24] DaemonFC But it's 7,000. [00:25] DaemonFC Peter Staley took the drug company money and stopped criticizing them. [00:25] DaemonFC Started advertising their wares. [00:25] DaemonFC Peter Staley is to the gay rights movement what Matthew GULAG is to open source. [00:25] DaemonFC Or Free Software, he says he's a Free Software guy. [00:26] DaemonFC He finds ways to write software that protects Microsoft from being sued. [00:26] DaemonFC While they make our PCs nastier. [00:26] DaemonFC Did he ever start out at a Free Software guy? I don't know. [00:27] DaemonFC I think Staley started out as an activist, while he was dying and while he was mad that the only thing that could help him was $10,000 a month in 1985. [00:27] DaemonFC When he was in no danger of dying anymore, he called it, and went to work for the drug companies. [00:28] DaemonFC Even people who start out with good intentions, or at least try to do good for selfish reasons, can be turned later. [00:28] DaemonFC I mean, look at Charlton Heston. He was not a dumb guy. [00:28] DaemonFC He was very well educated. [00:28] MinceR "If you will not be turned, you will be destroyed!" [00:28] DaemonFC He was a strong promoter of things like labor unions. [00:28] DaemonFC And then he flipped and endorsed Ronald Reagan. [00:29] DaemonFC "If you will not be turned, you will be destroyed!" [00:29] DaemonFC Vader? [00:30] DaemonFC There's nobody fighting against the drug companies anymore. [00:30] DaemonFC They have it down to 7,000 AIDS deaths a year, and most of them are poor blacks in the south. [00:31] DaemonFC So the Staleys can rest now and go on the drug company payroll and not care. [00:31] DaemonFC Illinois only very recently repealed its criminal AIDS law. [00:32] MinceR Sidious [00:32] DaemonFC I mean, you'd think the only justification for repeal would need to be "It is common knowledge that having unprotected sex is a risk for HIV.". [00:33] DaemonFC I think I'd make an interesting judge. [00:37] DaemonFC MinceR, I was reading the case law of Indiana's former sodomy law. [00:37] DaemonFC From before it was repealed in the mid 70s. [00:38] DaemonFC In one case, a man argued to the state Supreme Court that he couldn't be convicted for Sodomy because it was not explained to him that the guy he was having sex with in prison was a human being. He further claimed that the court took judicial notice of the fact that the prosecuting witness was a human being after the motion was first filed [00:49] DaemonFC but prior to the overruling of said motion. (The motion was again overruled at the close of all the evidence.)" [00:51] DaemonFC The text of the law said that the state had to prove that the act occurred with a human being, and his argument was that the state never argued that the victim was human until after the trial was in progress. [00:51] DaemonFC Well, he may well have been right, actually. In a technical sense. [00:52] DaemonFC If the criminal complaint never read out that the crime was committed on a human being. [00:52] DaemonFC But there was no way the court was going to let him go; [00:56] DaemonFC MinceR, That's the state for you. [00:57] DaemonFC Even if you are right, they're not letting you win. [05:48] DaemonFC The ones who won't stop are the ones who will get it. [05:48] DaemonFC Then hopefully they'll be immune from having been infected and won't be vectors again. [05:49] DaemonFC Back to suicide "prevention". [05:50] DaemonFC It's a lark. You know, people who call those things are obviously having second thoughts already. [05:50] DaemonFC People who do it go ahead and do it. [05:50] DaemonFC Basically, it's like this "self abuse" line for the mentally ill. [05:50] DaemonFC The consequences of calling that number are going to make whatever you're going through now seem pretty good by the time they get done with you. [05:51] DaemonFC They take you somewhere, "observe" you, get a court to declare you incompetent to have a gun permit, and then you have the State Police going through your house. [05:52] DaemonFC Then while that's going on, the "mental health center" charges you $30,000 for being there and dumps you out with 30 days worth of medication, which some psychiatrist who saw you once or twice for a total of 20 minutes thinks you should take, based on a guess about what might be "wrong with you". [05:53] DaemonFC And even if he was right, which, he was probably not, you won't get follow up care unless you have good insurance, and if your life was going so well that you have good insurance, you probably wouldn't have been having suicidal ideation. [05:53] DaemonFC So you don't get that and can't get a prescription, and even if you could get a prescription, the drugs themselves are $1,500 a month and also don't work, except that they might cause suicide. Says so right on the bottle. [05:54] DaemonFC If you dive into the research studies on SSRI antidepressants, you'll find that they barely worked better than the placebo, except in the studies where the placebo and the drug were equally effective, which they decided not to submit to the FDA, which is fine for some reason. [05:55] DaemonFC There's the black box suicide warning. [05:55] DaemonFC So we know they're doing something, and it's not good. [22:28] schestowitz[TR] XFaCE: hormones [22:28] schestowitz[TR] XRevan86: ^ [22:28] Helenah XRevan86: It is [22:29] schestowitz[TR] Helenah: you can get better limbs [22:29] Helenah Doing anything with the intent of changing your body for example enhancing its functionality or changing such functionality or whatever is biohacking. [22:29] schestowitz[TR] a third harm is llike a fifth wheel [22:29] Helenah That can be done with drugs too [22:29] schestowitz[TR] or sa swiss army knife with 20 knives [22:29] schestowitz[TR] or different dizes [22:29] schestowitz[TR] you might be better off with a cord cutter [22:29] Helenah I spoke to a guy who implanted a pi into his body. [22:30] schestowitz[TR] INTO? [22:30] XRevan86 It's always fun when a neologism is retroactively applied to almost everything humans do. [22:30] schestowitz[TR] the body would react badly [22:30] Helenah It's a pretty useless implant because that will become obsolete quickly and he'll have to remove it. [22:30] Helenah schestowitz[TR]: No, not if it's covered in resin. [22:30] schestowitz[TR] so it''s a bubble with something in it [22:30] schestowitz[TR] and charging these things is hard [22:30] Helenah Actually implant rejection can still occure [22:30] schestowitz[TR] like pacemakers [22:30] Helenah But not always [22:30] Helenah Yes [22:31] schestowitz[TR] you could program a pacemaker [22:31] Helenah Shaped to be comfortable too [22:31] schestowitz[TR] but the companies won't let you [22:31] schestowitz[TR] likely sue reverse engineeers too [22:31] Helenah Implant rejection looks bad [22:31] Helenah your body starts trying to tunnel the implant [22:31] schestowitz[TR] raspi is very large [22:31] Helenah the rejection site itches [22:32] Helenah Yeah [22:32] XRevan86 Are we talking about implanting raspi's into human bodies? [22:32] Helenah XRevan86: Yep [22:32] Helenah And implant rejection risk [22:32] schestowitz[TR] does it also come with a wire for recharging? [22:32] schestowitz[TR] a wire that comes out from the skin? [22:32] Helenah Yes [22:32] schestowitz[TR] ewww [22:32] Helenah Radio charging [22:32] schestowitz[TR] a pi? [22:32] schestowitz[TR] it needs like 5 volts [22:32] Helenah Yeah, he charges it via radio [22:33] Helenah You can get wireless chargers for phones [22:33] Helenah It's a flat coil [22:33] Helenah Like a pad [22:33] schestowitz[TR] but the phones are not in human tissue [22:33] Helenah The charging put was right up to the skin in his thigh while the pi implanted into the fat. [22:33] Helenah *part [22:33] schestowitz[TR] anyway, sound slike something a person would do for short-term attentiobn [22:34] schestowitz[TR] reddit thread: I put pi in my body.. [something[ [22:34] schestowitz[TR] [2 comments, 2 upvotes][ [22:34] Helenah Nah [22:34] schestowitz[TR] "lol, that was worth it" [22:34] Helenah He's on hackaday [22:34] schestowitz[TR] [proceeds to removing the implant] [22:34] schestowitz[TR] hackaday is one I had in mind [22:34] Helenah And an OS was GNU/Linux distro was developed from it for use inside the body. [22:34] schestowitz[TR] I follow everything there [22:34] schestowitz[TR] maybe I even linked to that project [22:35] Helenah That was it, he was hosting a file server inside his body. [22:35] XRevan86 Helenah: So are we talking raspi zero or the regular version? [22:35] schestowitz[TR] pico? [22:35] Helenah XRevan86: I can't fully remember that part. [22:35] schestowitz[TR] pico does not run gnu/linux [22:35] Helenah But I explained as much as I could and even pointed you guys to hackaday. [22:35] XRevan86 Oh, Pico's a thing, yea. [22:35] Helenah Anyway biohacking is cool [22:35] XRevan86 Of course if someone implanted a proper raspi, that's way more hilarious. [22:35] schestowitz[TR] those have availability [22:36] schestowitz[TR] unlike the "main" product [22:36] DaemonFC It's almost cheaper to buy new clothes than to go to the laundromat. [22:36] schestowitz[TR] XFaCE: they can put that inside a boob blob [22:36] schestowitz[TR] but then it would overheat [22:36] schestowitz[TR] it would also hurt to sleep on it [22:36] schestowitz[TR] the pi has shrp edges [22:37] schestowitz[TR] sooner or later it would become so disgusting and damaged you'd remove it and have only scars [22:37] schestowitz[TR] and maybe tumours too [22:37] XRevan86 schestowitz: Maybe bubble wrap it :) [22:37] schestowitz[TR] the bubbles would melt [22:37] XRevan86 But it would still overheat of course. [22:38] schestowitz[TR] so you end up with ewaste in your body [22:38] Helenah I once got to see inside an NOC (Network Operations Centre), that was soo cool! :D [22:38] Helenah Exclusive access too!!! [22:38] schestowitz[TR] my office is a NOC [22:38] schestowitz[TR] right now evern [22:38] schestowitz[TR] 9 screns [22:38] schestowitz[TR] wide uses 3 [22:38] DaemonFC schestowitz[TR], People wonder how it can be that expensive to go to the laundromat. [22:38] schestowitz[TR] *wife [22:38] Helenah This has the worlds second largest plasma screen in it. [22:38] XRevan86 Maybe if a person has a lot of fat and it's implanted just below the skin, with all the ports exposed through the skin [22:38] DaemonFC It's simple. Like everything else, "Because they can do it to you.". [22:38] Helenah Still used to this day [22:39] schestowitz[TR] large screens are very expensive [22:39] schestowitz[TR] a [22:39] DaemonFC Why does it cost $1,000 a month to rent an apartment that hasn't been maintained properly and where everything smells like mildew? [22:39] DaemonFC Because they can! [22:39] schestowitz[TR] better to buy array of smaller ones [22:39] schestowitz[TR] you also get finer resolution [22:39] schestowitz[TR] DaemonFC: in IL? [22:43] schestowitz[TR] Helenah: it shows the standard desk has 4 monitors [22:43] schestowitz[TR] and then some giant monitor that costs maybe 1000 times the cost of a small one [22:43] schestowitz[TR] and is not very useful anyway [22:44] schestowitz[TR] gchq manchester wasted like tens of millions on a screen iirc [22:44] schestowitz[TR] and it became a local joke [22:44] Helenah lol [22:44] schestowitz[TR] when you are gchq you havbe no budgetg limits or contraints [22:44] DaemonFC "Oh, did I say you're paying for that? [23:37] schestowitz[TR] now people start thinking about those sorts of things [23:37] DaemonFC Fahrenheit 451 is what the Democrats are doing now. [23:37] schestowitz[TR] as energy bills double [23:37] DaemonFC To give the idea there are more than two genders, they have to first delete the concept of gender. [23:37] schestowitz[TR] a friend of mine pays 250 a month, for two people, who work outside home [23:37] DaemonFC And they do that by canceling books that point that out. [23:37] schestowitz[TR] don't know how they use up that much power, maybe heating up the home [23:38] schestowitz[TR] which has limited insulation, no doors in the living room area [23:38] DaemonFC Mom averages about $155 a month. [23:38] schestowitz[TR] some homes are built such that you need to heat up entire floors [23:38] schestowitz[TR] just to keep one little area warm [23:38] DaemonFC Her landlord said she "always" used over $250, which is why he "had to raise the rent". [23:38] schestowitz[TR] for one person? [23:38] schestowitz[TR] who works at the church? [23:39] schestowitz[TR] outside home? [23:39] DaemonFC I said, "Bullshit. Call the electric company. Ask them.". She goes, "I don't think you can do that.". I said, "Ask them for a 12 month average on that unit because you're thinking about signing a lease.". [23:39] DaemonFC They told her. [23:39] schestowitz[TR] she pays more than a couple and we're at home all the time [23:39] schestowitz[TR] so her landlord isa liar. nice. [23:39] DaemonFC It was about $100 a month less than what the landlord was saying. [23:40] DaemonFC Oh he exaggerates about money all the time. I knew that already. [23:40] DaemonFC If he does something that cost him a nickel on the apartment, that was four hundred bucks you know. [23:41] DaemonFC He's so stupid that he caused an insane amount of water damage to my mom's apartment trying to unclog a shower upstairs. [23:41] schestowitz[TR] she was better off tiffing with Felta in a hokme on mortgage [23:41] schestowitz[TR] she would have even paid it off twice over by now [23:41] DaemonFC The stuff works based on generating heat and pressure and pushing out the clog, right? [23:41] DaemonFC And it said use a tablespoon and pour in a cup of hot water. [23:41] DaemonFC So what do you think he did? [23:42] DaemonFC He pours in the entire bottle, which had like 100 tablespoons, pours in the water. [23:42] DaemonFC The drain pipe explodes, it's raining in mom's kitchen, water and caustic pipe chemicals. [23:42] DaemonFC The guy is a fucking idiot, Roy. [23:42] schestowitz[TR] he blew irt [23:42] schestowitz[TR] literally [23:43] DaemonFC Well, it's not clogged anymore. [23:43] DaemonFC :) [23:43] TR News first impressions gemini://cyi1341.smol.pub/random16 [23:44] schestowitz[TR] it burst [23:44] DaemonFC No clog. [23:44] schestowitz[TR] he worked around the clog-=up [23:44] DaemonFC You blew it up! You maniacs! [23:44] schestowitz[TR] broke free of the piping [23:44] DaemonFC You god damned maniacs blew it up! [23:44] schestowitz[TR] next time he wants to build a bomb he knows what to use and where to buy it [23:45] DaemonFC That stuff is seriously bad on pipes. [23:45] DaemonFC I mean, even to use according to the directions, it can melt pipes. [23:45] schestowitz[TR] usually very corrosive [23:45] schestowitz[TR] you don't want to use an actual tablespoon with it [23:45] schestowitz[TR] if you later use the spoon [23:45] schestowitz[TR] metal or plastic pipes|? [23:46] DaemonFC Like PEX. [23:46] schestowitz[TR] today's homes are made more cheaply [23:46] schestowitz[TR] just like today's electronics [23:46] DaemonFC People pour it down the drain and then they have a bigger problem than paying a plumber to come unclog a pipe. [23:46] schestowitz[TR] people expect everything "cheap" [23:46] schestowitz[TR] even if it lasts just 3-5 years [23:47] DaemonFC schestowitz[TR], There's a lot of cases where if you don't know what you're doing, leave it alone. [23:47] schestowitz[TR] DaemonFC: plungers before it's too late [23:47] DaemonFC You'll only cause more damage and then you turn a $300 plumber call to like $4,000 worth of shit that needs to happen before you can use that bathroom again. [23:47] DaemonFC Including replacing the floorboard and the drywall on the ceiling downstairs. [23:48] schestowitz[TR] jnust pour icing down the pipe [23:48] schestowitz[TR] and wash it off with milk [23:48] DaemonFC schestowitz[TR], We have infamously bad plumbing in this apartment. [23:48] schestowitz[TR] then he's full [23:48] schestowitz[TR] and obese [23:48] DaemonFC Ruben is out all the time unclogging it because it clogs too easily and fixing it right would be a major expense. [23:49] schestowitz[TR] that's like trying to "fix" a CMS then [23:49] schestowitz[TR] lots of work [23:49] DaemonFC Like, at least once a month or so he's out here unclogging something because the building needs an overhaul, the landlord doesn't want to spend that kind of money. [23:49] schestowitz[TR] and then comes a new "major" version [23:49] schestowitz[TR] and the changes go down the drain [23:49] schestowitz[TR] metaphorically [23:49] DaemonFC So he pays Ruben $20 to come out and unclog everything so it works again for a couple months maybe. [23:50] DaemonFC The bathroom fixtures need replaced. [23:50] DaemonFC They got severely water damaged by a previous tenant. [23:50] DaemonFC The entire area under the sink smells like mildew. [23:51] DaemonFC Don't stick your head in. Don't store anything down there except maybe bathroom chemicals. [23:51] DaemonFC The washers and dryers are either broken entirely or don't actually work until you've ran them several times. [23:51] DaemonFC The washing machine down there is dancing around because someone's using it right now, actualy. [23:52] *psydroid2 has quit (connection closed) [23:52] DaemonFC THUNK THUNK THUNK THUNK CLUNKA CLUNK!THUNK THUNK THUNK THUNK CLUNKA CLUNK! THUNK THUNK THUNK THUNK CLUNKA CLUNK! [23:52] schestowitz[TR] dancing with the stars [23:53] DaemonFC Everyone uses the THUNKA CLUNK CLUNK one because that's the one that leaves your clothes sopping wet. The second one down randomly ruins something spitting out leftover bleach. [23:53] DaemonFC The third one has been broken since before I lived here. [23:53] DaemonFC The dryers have no heat and cost $3 every time you activate them. [23:54] DaemonFC The guy down the hall's apartment smells like cat piss and that's air freshener for whatever the hell in god's name his neighbor is smoking every night. [23:54] DaemonFC I think he's the reason I had to put flea collars on my cats. [23:55] DaemonFC I think it will take a month or two before the flea problem dies down because by the time the cat's scratching, it's too late to prevent a major infestation. [23:56] DaemonFC About all you can do is activate flea collars and put them on the cats and vacuum your apartment regularly. [23:56] schestowitz[TR] could bw worse [23:56] DaemonFC There's thousands of flea eggs by the time you even realize it's a problem. It can take months for them to hatch, and they go to bite the cat once, and then die if it was wearing a collar. [23:57] schestowitz[TR] you could be in "bay area" ppaying $5000 a month for a showboix 'home' [23:57] schestowitz[TR] and pay maybe $10 for a dyer's cycle [23:57] DaemonFC Oh, I don't use his washing machines. [23:57] schestowitz[TR] if you know how to handle clothes and garments like sheets and curtains you rarely need a dryer [23:58] schestowitz[TR] even in winter, it just takes longer [23:58] DaemonFC I have a spinner that I use instead of a dryer. [23:58] DaemonFC It uses a centrifuge to spin the water out of clothes. [23:58] DaemonFC It's like a salad spinner for clothes. [23:59] DaemonFC schestowitz[TR], Even if the rent does go up to what I'm thinking, I'd rather cheap out on the rent and get an apartment that's just not so great than pay double or triple the rent.
