THE world is going through a journalism crisis, both offline and online (many of the former have become only the latter, where they inevitably perish). Not only is there "slow news" every day (in every domain, including politics); the vacuum is increasingly filled by computer-generated spew, not real news, and some of it is deliberate disinformation. The World Wide Web has rapidly deteriorated into "garbage dump" status and even Wikipedia seems to be mostly edited by PR firms, governments, or people/companies that are covered in the edited article/s (they basically write their own "vanity pages" or ads).

The video above mentions Gulag Noise [1, 2], better known as Google News. Do a search in Google News for "Ubuntu" and you will mostly get noise. It returns returned ~40% non-English results today and nearly 50% yesterday. Well, moments ago it is about 35% or majority (over 50%) being Phoronix and non-English:

Google News majority being Phoronix and non-English

This isn't really useful at all. It's not good use of time, is it?

20 days ago I wrote about what happened to OpenSource.Com-turned-OpenSource.Net, noting that it had barely published anything. I said "they seem to have posted only about one article per week (opensource.com published about a dozen a week for many years)."

Moreover they are hiding the dates, as we noted before, probably in order to obscure the lack of activity, but we can see only 5 or 6 posts from the past 3 weeks - nowhere near the 2 per day of OpenSource.com.

As the video above explains, considering the content of the stories in OpenSource.Net (so far) it's probably better that it exists because so far we've not seen openwashing of (or by) Microsoft et al and it's better for people to have one more site to publish in, rather than none at all. There's already a severe lack of news sources or active blogs.
