Blizzard

Going well beyond 2000 then, possibly shutting down entire offices (again!)

Just in:

Video game developer Blizzard Entertainment expected to cut 136 jobs from Cork office

[...] Speaking in the Dáil on Thursday, Tánaiste, Michéal Martin confirmed that the number of expected redundancies was 136, calling the proposed cuts "very serious" for impacted staff and their families.

This is already rippling through to games-focused sites:

According to a new report from Irish Examiner, Blizzard Entertainment plans to cut 136 jobs at the office based in Cork, Ireland.

The Tánaiste (deputy head of government), Michéal Martin, confirmed the number of affected employees while speaking in the Dáil. Blizzard reportedly employs about 200 people at its Cork office.

So, if Blizzard goes through with the layoffs, it will cut back on nearly the entire office. Blizzard first established itself in Ireland over a decade ago.

Microsoft in Ireland has been deeply affected. See [1, 2] among many other reports.
