Asia Appears to be Fastest to Adopt GNU/Linux
Asia is not just the world's largest continent but also the home of a considerable majority of the world's population. This matters a lot because Asia should/would be a priority if "market penetration" (and proliferation) was a goal of Free software.
Now let's examine GNU/Linux ("proper", not ChromeOS) adoption this month.
In Singapore, continuing a recent trend [1, 2, 3], GNU/Linux is now at an all-time high of 5.11% (GNU/Linux is at 5.5% in Asia this month) and we recently showed similar trends in Taiwan. They're not large places, but they are very technologically advanced, along with Japan and Korea, where the share of GNU/Linux increased this month. The same is true in India. Windows sank to a new low of 13% in India this month. Given the American and European roots of the GNU/Linux system, perhaps it is surprising that neither the US nor Europe were fastest to adopt it. █
