This Should be a Reminder for Wikileaks to Quit Twitter (X) and Use Its Own Site
A few days ago or 5 tweets ago Wikileaks cited the following blog post:
Twitter did similar things to Wikileaks (@wikileaks) and accounts associated with Wikileaks. It "locked" these accounts, locked users out of these accounts (sometimes for eternity), and it generally did not treat Wikileaks fairly. It also kept hiding (demoting if not shadow-banning) particular Wikileaks posts ("tweets"). I should know because I was there and I was protesting along with Wikileaks. That was more than half a decade ago, after Donald Trump has blocked me in Twitter (for criticising him).
Twitter was always very censorious; it never stopped.
The screenshot at the top ought to remind people that Twitter (or X) is not suitable for journalism. It's not even remotely for "free speech" (which basically means, whatever Musk and his handlers fancy).
We've already said it more than a dozen times since Julian Assange's release: Wikileaks should make better use of its own Web site and resist the temptation to outsource itself (and its audience) to some lion's den. What if Wikileaks got some "Musk leaks"? What would happen then? █
