  • Melodic Design

    Another way to melody is to get an instrument, possibly also a wood shed or similar where you will not or less disturb other people (parking garage stairways are often pretty barren, apart from the occasional homeless, ground staff, or those folks who sit in cars passing by), and to spend some amount of time with that instrument.

    The clouds have settled in the mountains lately. Bringing a much needed rain.

    It announce a new season, with the full moon just a couple days ago. A small group of us gathered on zoom. We've been connecting for a year now, holding Huachuma ceremonies, around the lunar eclipses. We've updated each other on where we are at in our lives, shared songs, mantra and light language.

    In the last ceremony, I went to lay down in a small cedar grouping and I learnt about my couple life being over. Yes, a cedar actually told me about it! I didn't want to believe it then. But it became reality during the last few months.

  • D.C. Da Capo. A Visual Novel I Quite Liked.

    This isn't an anime review at all, this is actually me talking about a visual novel I finished yesterday. Yes, as if this gemlog could get any more niche, I'm not writing about semi-obscure visual novels from the early 2000s. I'm a big fan of VNs, and one thing about them that's interesting to me is their historical vallue. The origin of "moe" comes really from these earlier visual novels. This will in fact come into play with this VN in particular as you will see, there's a link to a popular anime. I'm going to review each route of this game one by one, and this review will ABSOLUTELY SPOIL THE WHOLE GAME. IF YOU HAVE ANY INTENTION OF PLAYING THE GAME, YOU SHOULD DO SO BEFORE YOU READ THIS POST. The Story lines in Da Capo each rely on the intruigue behind their respective character, with a twist towards the end of the routes, (somewhat like a traditional kishotenketsu structure). Knowing spoilers will significantly effect your experience of the game.

  • Snap integration in Qubes OS templates

    Snap programs can be either packaged as "strict" or "classic"; when it is strict there is some confinement at work which can be inspected on an installed snap using `snap connections $appname`, while a "classic" snap has no sandboxing at all. Snap programs are completely decorrelated from the host operating system where snap is running, so you can have old or new versions of a snap packaged program without having to handle shared library versions.

    Snap package format is interesting, while it used to have a bad reputation, I wanted to make my opinion about it. After reading its design and usage documentation, I find it quite good, and I have a good experience using some programs installed with snap.

      I think I had a moment of getting incredibly fed up with sites that cannot run without tens of megs of javascript that will cause the site to not function if it's blocked (I am blocking it) (also sites have started blocking *me* because they can't run their fingerprinter scripts) and remembered smol.pub exists. Now, I have several blogs, but there's something charming about a place to write pretty much in plaintext only that's also accessible via Gemini and Gopher.
