It Took The Guardian More Than 2 Years of Musk to Realise What Twitter Was and It Took Twitter 4 Years of a President Trump to Realise What Trump Was
Trump was deplatformed only a fortnight before Biden became president anyway
The Guardian is not a champion of the left and it's not even left. Its big sponsors include Bill Gates and some oil oligarchs. The Guardian is basically a hoax of a "leftist" press.
But The Guardian quitting "X" (or Twitter) is good news (more on that in tomorrow's Daily Links). In fact, one can hope more British newspapers, politicians, local police authorities etc. will read about the whys [sic] - as explained by Guardian editors - and then do the same. To quote this one article: "Britain's The Guardian newspaper announced Wednesday it would no longer post content from its official accounts on Elon Musk's X, branding it a "toxic media platform" home to "often disturbing content"."
There are even better reasons to avoid "X". But overall the final decision that they make this week seems correct. The net effect is good. Plagiarists/slop artists like Brian Fagioli already troll The Guardian for that.
"We think that the benefits of being on X are now outweighed by the negatives," they said. I already realised this half a decade ago and stopped engaging in any interactions there. Instead I spent time in IRC, Gemini, and the real Web, not "webapps" (later in the same year Twitter abolished the JavaScript-free version of Twitter).
Will The Guardian help accelerate the collapse of "X"? Let's hope so. It can contribute to an already-rapid demise.
Back in 2016 (before Trump) Mr. Hintjens said: "It has become clear to me that Twitter is a lens that distorts. The economics in this case favor the wrong people: the psychopaths and their followers. It gives them space in which to grow, recruit, and market themselves. By using Twitter, I'm contributing to this."
Earlier in IRC we said: "Keep throwing punches AT social control media, not FROM social control media. The goal should be to ELIMINATE it, not to DOMINATE it."
The real owners of Twitter are enemies of activists and activism. They're fanatical oil tycoons. █
