If You Support Free - is in Freedom/Libre - Software, Then Support the Free Software Foundation (FSF)
December has just begun (25 days till Christmas) and the weather here is fairly mild - 13 degrees later today, based on multiple different forecasters [1, 2] - which is perhaps a reminder that not only wars are a threat to human civilisation but also climate change. Last week was so cold that a pipe inside our home broke (for the first time; I fixed it myself).
To us, 2024 was the most productive year so far. With a month left in the year we already look back at about 5,000 new pages (some are in-depth articles), many uploaded documents, belated legal action against a disgusting bully [1, 2], and key anniversaries, notably the 20-year milestone of one of the biggest GNU/Linux sites (about a quarter million pages). When it was only 15 the traffic in it was a lot less and later this month it turns 20.5 with over a million requests every day.
Our goal here and in that sister site is to promote Free software, by either sharing or analysing news. This site does (mostly) the latter.
Given the financial perils of the FSF, this year we encourage people to become FSF members. Be careful not to donate any money to Microsoft front groups like FSFE or Open Source Initiative (OSI). They actively work to destabilise and undermine the FSF and its work.
According to a LibrePlanet site, the FSF's fund-raising campaign now stands at $61,000+. Microsofters have begun libeling key FSF people, hoping it can slow down donations. This past day alone the FSF raised about $5,000. █
