GNU/Linux Reaches 5% in Indonesia (Population Size Near 300 Million)
2025 started with GNU/Linux at around 5%. Many countries that previously had very sparse or scarce Free software adoption catch up and/or "come back from behind". Indonesia, with a population size estimated at 284,621,297 (close to the size of the US population but scattered across about a fifth the land area) is among those countries, with similar trends in nearby nations like Malaysia, Singapore, and Maharlika. But many Internet users in Indonesia are quite poor and merely use an Android skinnerbox. Not too shockingly, this is how Windows fares there: (judging by observable Web usage)
That's going 5 years back. You would need not envy "Microsoft Indonesia" right now. █
