[Meme] How to Lose Social Life (While Pretending to Still Have It)
Talk to people, not to microphones
People are not pixels, they are flesh and blood.
ALL the "major" 'smart' 'phones' (which are basically just computers that transmit location data all the time and can sometimes make calls like an actual phone) are troubling the status quo for Free software users, who value their health and dignity of those around them. It's typically possible to live without 'smart' 'phones', even without making any considerable compromises (things are are "app-only" typically aren't worth it anyway).
I gave up on mobile phones more than 20 years ago. Prior to that I'd remove the battery any time the phone (Motorola) wasn't "in use". We're talking about 1990s models. An "address book" was like peak innovation and falls didn't crack the screen. When I abandoned this phone not much changed as I had barely used it for anything, except the emergencies that never happened. Back then I also wore a watch on my wrist, so the common excuse for carrying some 'smart' 'phone' (as a clock) wasn't applicable. How often do you need to connect a wristwatch to the socket on the wall to charge it? █
