Facebook Banning Linux Sites (or People Who Link to Linux Sites) is Another Symptom of the Web's Demise
Facebook's "free speech" policy for 2025 seems to be: racism is OK, Linux sites are not OK. Thankfully this issue has drawn or attracted a lot of attention (about a dozen articles so far). It is part of a broader problem on the Web.
Real articles are banned/deranked, whereas LLM slop is apparently fine. Here's the latest "work" from BetaNews: (probably doing some plagiarism of Marius Nestor et al, not 'copypasta' but other kinds of plagiarism)
Of course it's LLM slop or chaff: (spam using slop)
We have also noticed that some sites help Microsoft openwashing this week; even Bobby Borisov participated, not just Microsoft-funded sites like this one (an associate said that "the jaundiced eye of Redmond turns its baleful gaze towards PostgreSQL") and the official PostgreSQL sites has just promoted .NET, stating that "dotConnect for PostgreSQL enables developers to integrate PostgreSQL data with .NET applications seamlessly".
The headline "Microsoft builds open source document database on PostgreSQL" is misleading because it'll be some trap that helps sell proprietary surveillance, not Freedom (as in Free software). In the distant past it was called "open core", set aside the openwashing aspects.
The state of media on the Web is really bad; Social Control Media amplifies the badness, as Facebook serves to show. █
