Slopwatch: Fake Articles About "Linux" and More (Latest Roundup Featuring BetaNews, Janus Atienza, and Brittany Day From Guardian Digital, Inc)
It's LLM slop season. Let's go hunting for some slop, starting with a very prolific Serial Slopper (SS). This is his latest 'story':
Fake, sir!
Here is the latest from Janus Atienza (lots of slop so far this year, e.g. [1, 2], even earlier this week). Notice that even the headline alone "smells" like Webspam:
And of course it is slop made by LLMs:
Next up, Brittany Day. She can never catch a break from plagiarising real articles, in this case about KaOS, which had a new release some days ago:
LLM slop about KaOS, that's just what that is: (maybe using a bot to rephrase other people's original work)
And the only other 'article' from the same day was also by Brittany Day and very, very sloppy:
Just slopping around with CVE-2025-0762:
This is the Web in 2025. It's full of garbage. And since we're mostly focusing on "Linux"-centered LLM slop we're just limiting ourselves to one edge of a very large iceberg. More "Linux" sites sell out and we need to ensure this fails.
Generally speaking, "HEY HI" (AI) is not a TECH RACE now... but it's a RACE ... in how to TRY to make SLOP seem MORALLY acceptable and CONVINCE businesses to replace PROPER processes with SLOP. It is one form of enshittification. █
