Scheduled Maintenance Tomorrow and on Valentines
LATER this week (Feb 11, 2025 23:00 - Feb 12, 2025 02:00 GMT and Feb 13, 2025 10:00 - Feb 14, 2025 03:00 GMT) the datacentre's operator "will be integrating connectivity with new transit and IXP (internet exchange point) providers. Customers may notice traffic taking different paths across the network to/from the Internet. This isn't expected to impact customer service but we're announcing this as at-risk network maintenance due to the nature of the required work."
It has been nearly 3 months since the last server reboot and quite a few months since the latest persistent network outage, so IRC has had no interruption (downtimes impact IRC more/worse than any other protocol), but we plan to patch and reboot some time soon, even try to upgrade the IRC daemon (back end).
Security is our priority, but it's being balanced against disruption to service, especially IRC.
If the site (or Gemini capsule*) is offline for a bit, the maintenance windows are likely the root cause. █
_______
* In Gemini Protocol we get lots of activity too. Since midnight (i.e. past 21 hours) we've served 208,421 Gemini requests or close to 300,000 if one counts the sister site as well.
