Windows Used by Only One in Six Asians to Access the Web, According to statCounter
Windows down to 17.5%, almost lower than iOS.
No wonder, with so many people moving to mobile...
GNU/Linux is doing well in Asia. It's measured above 2% in Japan (compare to past years [1, 2]) and it seems like the principal gainer is Android, which contains Linux.
"The market share observations need to keep noting the large amount of income that Microsoft used to get via monopoly rents," someone opines, "and that Microsoft no longer commands even remotely enough market share to continue charging such rents. Without that income, Microsoft might be mainly dependent on bailouts from various governments wanting to backdoor communications either through outright backdoors (e.g. CALEA) or through "bug doors" a la NSA."
Currently the US administration isn't warm towards Asia. Seeing how it speaks about Taiwan (like it's for sale, much like Ukraine), maybe more governments in Asia should move away from Microsoft. In Taiwan, Windows is at an all-time low and GNU/Linux grew to almost 5% (even higher in Hong Kong). █
